What did you do to your TJ today?

Started what I thought would be an easy replacement on the altenator for my 00 4.0L. Turned into a bucket of headache as the bracket was cracked and I had a hard time sourcing a replacement. Got it buttoned up.

Replaced the crankshaft sensor after Jeep died at Market Basket the other day. Cranked and cranked, but no start.
Changed out coil, no help. Changed battery cables no help. Check all fuses and relays, no help.
Replaced crankshaft sensor and started right up! Thank you to all those who have posted how-to's in this forum.
Appreciate it...

Somewhere somehow I saw a suggestion to drill through the holes already on the lower control arm mounts because those mounts will keep the frame strong. It wasn't too hard to drill but breaking off the sharp edges and priming/painting was a huge PIA. I'm not even sure if I succeeded at that so Fluid Film is a regular thing. Poking around to keep those holes from getting clogged is another reason I wish I drilled where SAWB and MikekiM drilled theirs.

Lived, Learned, and now Sharing what I'll avoid next time.

Guy called Dirona on youtube drilled his up in the control arm mounts but I thought that was crazy , I wouldn't want water and crap draining all on my control arms. Don't know maybe that's where you saw that .... is where I did.

Still doin’ what I said I’d with this black Rubi- ridin’ around with the top down and the stereo cranked.

Missing my dad, think this is gonna take some time and just keeping my chin up.

This place is called Parches Cove, runs along the Tennessee River, Paul Bryant, son of the legendary coach Bear Bryant owns a nice spread down here to hunt on.

Usual day of small progress. Finished removing the center soft top cleat and replacing it with the Bulldawg cleat. Now the front of the hard top fits side to side. If I get very adventurious, I might pull the top one more time and reverse the bolts on the Arizona Rocky Road Radio mount so I can remove it in the future without pulling the top again - duh... But I don't it is entirely necessary as I don't think I if I reversed it I would have room for a radio above it anyway - but it would allow me to mount the grab bars latter (I think the radio and the grab bars are the last things in the box that I can self install.

I really need to finish cleaning the tools out of it and give her a bath. Then she needs some glamor shots.

Right now the trees are dropping a ton of dew - I mowed and my truck looks like a chia pet, all the grass clippings stuck to the sides of it.

Anyway, did a quick test drive, it squeeked a lot - checked the clamps, yep loose. Tightened them down and most all the squeaking went away. Will hit the highway with it in the morning. So far it sounds like road noise is down a little from the factory yard top, but the real question will be wind noise at speed from the pioneer platform.

Don't kill deer unless you plan on eating EVERY part of them. 😬
I want that blue Toyota. I love those old FJs.

Kill them?! No way bro.

I like sticking em with arrows in nonlethal places to remind mother nature who is boss.

My version of catch and release deer style.

Jkng

For some reason i can stop working on this thing. I figured once I fixed it and got it back out on the trails I’d call it good enough again, but I’m having fun. Not much today, got the CB remounted, just need to finish wiring (15 min) put in some LED footwell lights and actually mounted my high lift (I know people hate it) instead of just strapping it to the floor

My Jeep has some squeaks also. What claps did you tighten to remove the noise? I’m new to working on my vehicle, so the more specific you can be would be helpful.

Hang in there @AndyG. Think of all the good times to make things a little easier. I only think of the good times with my mom with her dementia. Taking care of her by myself for 2 years took a toll on me. Nobody else had to live and see it. Think positive. There's no doubt in my mind that he was proud of you.

Thanks man- making him proud has been a lot of what I built my life around- Dad gave approval for the right reasons - because you did what you were supposed to do-worked, paid your bills, took care of your life.

I remember him building 3 houses, fishing with him, quail hunting-

I have a friend, like you, cared for both parents long term- nearly killed him. Respect.

The last thing my Dad said to me, that has stuck with me, was he was "proud of me for taking care of my mom". I was the "bad seed". My two older brothers have lots of money, much better lives and we all live within 5 miles of each other. They thought I was the good choice to take care of her, so they wouldn't be bothered. I wouldn't have it any other way. It gives me some assurance that I did the right thing.

I can second that post- When things started getting bad with dad and there was a lot of talk back-and-forth I told my wife I’m headed over there and I’m going to stay until we get a grip on this- I literally cherish every minute of it. Except maybe when he snuck out the car and tried to drive away with a diaper on ... boy that got exciting.

I’m totally serious- It was one of the rare times in my life I knew I was exactly where I needed to be.

You are a great son and did things right with your dad. I speak to my two brothers about once a year, if that. People use the "I'm busy" crap until it's too late. I have zero regrets about trying to take care of my parents like they did me.
