Since I sold the front and rear smittybilt bumpers and spare rack , I was thinking I’d just do a rear spare delete and mount the tire in the tub. Then , I figured for extra storage I would build something or , buy a rack or something. But I got to thinking , there’s no where for dog to ride in the back. So , I am looking for suggestions for something to haul a 35” tire that doesn’t cost a million dollars. From what I’ve read carrying one that big doesn’t work out on the tailgate. I did pick up a really nice used savvy rear bumper so , something bumper mounted is out.

MOR/ryde will handle a 35" no problem.

You can do something like the MORryde but including a "rest" to support the weight of the tire will do a lot for durability. See this picture from @TheBoogieman

Does this need to be drilled into the body?
I have a bestop one I got a few years ago and it was drilled into the body and attached to the roll bar… this do basically the same thing?

Good question. I wonder also if it will work with a non factory mount. My Jeep doesn’t have one at all.

Problem with that is the tire doesn't really rest on the bracket...if it did you would have difficulties opening and closing the tailgate. Even with my 33" spare I can see the flex in the tailgate. Luckily mine see's very little offroad bouncing.

So you have one of these mor/Ryde’s?

I used this spare tire mount with my MOR/ryde. It raises the tire a bit compared to the stock mount . I did have to slot the holes a bit to make it fit due to the upper lip on the MOR/ryde . I’m happy with it so far .

Can you post a link ? I think I did run across your post somewhere and saw your mod.

I'll let you take that up with mrblaine, TheBoogieman and a host of others who've done it for years.

That is where the MORryde kit comes in.

It is not hard to comprehend that if the tire is not resting on the bracket it is useless...unless something gives way. Plain to see the tire is NOT resting on said bracket. You do the math. Oh, I totally get it...monkee see, monkee do.
