31" tires with 2-3" lifts?

Since it pertains to subject from the OP also, what about adjustable track bars f&r for a smaller lift! My rear is still off a tad with a TB relocation bracket.

I ask because I’ve read that it will not be ideal.

That's a very valid concern. Most aftermarket adjustable track bars will get into the diff cover and other suspension components in the front at least. I'll do a little looking around again but I think that there are only two adjustable track bars that don't cause problems that I know of. I also think that the Currie track bar needs to be modified (shortened) to fit. Not a huge issue, but there it is.
Watch for interference at low lift heights on the TB's. I'm pretty sure that JKS and Currie are some of the very few that don't get into other components under there.

A well fitting track bar like the JKS shouldn’t give you any issues at 2” of lift. That’s what I intend to do with mine.

Bottom line, there are still a lot of choices out there for a low lift, TT rig on 31's, without breaking the bank.

My problem with my new build is that I want to get maybe 2.5" of lift total and run 31" tires on it.

However, if I go with the OME lift kit and then want to add a tummy tuck, I've got to add a 1" body lift, which is going to make the 31" tires look too small.

I could go with a 1" lift via H&R springs like @StG58 has done, then add the 1" body lift, but I worry that with 1" suspension lift instead of 2.5", I lose some articulation... Just not sure how much.

This is exactly where I'm at, @Chris. I started considering the H&R springs, and so started reading all of the threads @StG58 has regarding his set-up. I worry that the weight difference between the 4.0 that I have and his 4 holer might be an issue. Also, I will be running a winch, and I already have a hardtop. Add in my own weight (Santa was never meant to be thin!), and I fear the H&R springs might not cut it. Opinions?

You can run a 31" tire on a stock TJ, with stock springs and wheels with the correct backspacing. With what you are talking about, my guess is that you will get around an 1-1/4" to an 1-1/2" with the H&R's. Just order up the springs for the six cylinder model and go with the flow.

I had originally figured the OME 2.5" kit (to keep it simple), and whatever else would be needed (BL, TT, SYE...). By the time I added a winch, an Eaton E-locker, wheels and tires, the dollar amount started getting up there. That's when the H&R route started being an option I felt I should consider. Would H&R springs, a 1" body lift, and a TT be as simple as it sounds? The 15"X8" wheels I'm getting have options of 4-4.50" backspacing. 31" tires. FS roads and mild trails, and snow capability is what I'm after. Not a DD, but a good back-up rig, if need be. It's so hard to keep it realistic when I see some of the rigs on this forum, but I need to. The TJ isn't my only project...

Tummy tucks are never simple. Lots of moving parts there that need to be coordinated to work correctly. For FS roads, mild trails and snow, just put the H&R's on with your choice of premium shock, wheels with 4" of backspacing and the tires of your choice. I wouldn't even do the locker, to tell you the truth. You can go a long ways in the back woods without one. No body lift either. Set it up that way and drive it for awhile. If there is a performance problem address that specific problem then. I think that you'll be very surprised at what a basically stock TJ will do.

The Dana 44 I picked up is "open", so I'm fine with biting the bullet on an E-locker. Other than that, isn't a BL only needed if you're doing a TT? Otherwise, it's more cosmetic? I guess if you're really flexing, then it gives added clearance at the fender flares. Doesn't a BL also lead to needing a cable shifter for the TC? There's so much info on this forum, it's sometimes hard to keep it straight in my noggin'...

Yup, a BL is only needed if you're doing a tummy tuck or you're running your tires into the fenders and want to address the issue that way. There's better ways to accomplish the same thing though. You don't need a cable shifter for a body lift, you can relocate the transfer case shifter with a bracket to accomplish the same thing. The cable shifter just works mo' better.

Thanks, @StG58. I've always favored your approach to these things. I will admit that a BL and cable shifter for the TC is something I still think I'll do, but maybe the H&R springs, premium shocks, and the E-locker will be the direction I'll go. Where did you buy your springs from?

*Could you elaborate, please?

Check out tire rack dot com for the hr springs. They had the best prices when i was checking. I ended up with OME springs, but was leaning heavily on the hr for a while.

I got my H&R's from Tire Rack. Best price going at the time.

Appropriate bump stop length is best, I think. With tires bigger than 31's and lifts bigger than what we're talking about the bump stops need to be adjusted for the shocks and possibly the springs anyway.

Got it. Many thanks! :)
