Washington WTT: Rear Savvy Control Arms for MC

I have Savvy Aluminum Double Adjustable Rear Upper and Lower Control Arms that I'd like to trade for MC Aluminum Double Adjustable Rear Upper and Lower Control Arms. I rebuilt and greased them in October and they were already creaking in February. They're not good for this environment and I don't see myself rebuilding them every five months. The internals were in very good condition in October. I'm sure they are just as good now. I need something with less required maintenance. I'll probably keep this trade open for one week, then I'm going to keep the lowers and change out the bushings for MC duroflex. The uppers don't have that option, so I'll just have to buy new uppers. A straight trade is my best option, which is the reason for this post.

I might be right behind you, depending on whether I end up being able to retrofit the rock Krawler adventure series joints. The energy suspension stuff didn't last any longer on my JJs than the CV2 did, if even as long (my lowers with cv2 have rubbers in one end so I can't just roll under there and give it a twist to check them but I know the uppers with F5 are making noise).

The creaking is really annoying. I have a loud sound system, but I don’t always want to listen to it turned up just to drown the creaking out.

Yep. I'm in the very back of my neighborhood and the looks I've been getting from the neighbors aren't the usual "cool Jeep" expression, it's more like "that thing sounds like junk".

I hope I won’t have any issues, but I do wheel mostly in WA and see mud regularly.

We are an hour from each other . I don't get any creaking, especially doing anything I should be doing in a neighborhood.

I use CV2. I just have to wonder why some get the creaking and some dont.

Maybe I've been not paying attention or maybe the damn thing is too loud everywhere else for me to notice.

Mine don't generally creak either...I just know what happens to them after a while so I do PM on them once a year. Its the rust that bothers me.

Well that's very interesting. You're at Ft Sill, right? From the limited time I've spent in that area I know the soil looks more sandy but maybe I just need to give cv2 another try. I know I won't be using energy suspension stuff again, that stuff was creaking again in under 6 months.

The JJ is hands down the best joint you can buy. I think it’s the chemical they spray on the roads here during winter. This was a hard winter, so there is that. It’s my passenger rear lower and especially upper that are so loud. The drivers side are creaking too, but not as bad. I’m going to remove one this weekend and take a closer look.

With the JJ’s it’s like living on a creaky edge. I’d love to stay with them, but I don’t have the time to rebuild them every 4.5 months. I ran MC’s for 3 years and never had an issue. If I do it’s $21 to replace a bushing. Is it a better joint? No. Do I care? Yes. That’s why I’m changing. My wife even started complaining tonight. Of course, the top is off, so the creaking is exacerbated.

I ran MC joints for 10 years and never touched them. My JJs have already been pulled apart and re-greased twice in less than 2 years and 3k miles.

There was a member here that took a dremel tool bit to the inside of the Johnny Joint bushings to create a channel for grease to flow through, making it easier to grease via the zerk fittings.

I can’t remember who, but it was somewhat recent. I’m wondering how well that worked?
