What did you do to your TJ today?

Trying out the Hayden 2771. currently running the 2791 and I hate it. It starts off locked and has to warm up before it will disengage. On a warm Oklahoma morning I can get about six blocks with it roaring before it finally settles down...in Colorado last year I could engine brake down a mountain pass for two hours straight, riding the thermostat at 188F (slow, but nonexistent heat load) and it would be locked and screaming the entire time.

What's both hilarious and infuriating is that the fan clutch has a patent number embossed on it, for a design that claims specifically to avoid locked starts.

One of the reasons I went electric( I know it’s a rebel move around here). I like the quiet. Winter it was 20 degrees outside and I could hear the rise and fall of the oem clutch fan as I shifted going down the road.

If there's a good reason to go electric, that would be #1 in my book at this point. I hate unnecessary noise and I love how quiet electric fans can be (the Jeep JL an interesting exception being somehow louder than a mechanical fan TJ). I could make it reliable but I'm just not sure I can get away with it in the 100F summers here.

I used this one, think it was on the parts list of a stickied cooling system thread here.

I can't say if mine operates quite like this, but I did notice a remarkable difference after replacing it...the "roar" as well as the engine braking.

Certainly not all today but a little catching up I guess:
Installed Uniden 980ssb CB radio with a 102 whip that was laying around.
Lithium battery from Ablithium, 12lbs vs the 54lbs interstate it replaced.
Daystar hood straps. Solid thumbs up for those.

Tim

Replacing the battery.

The battery is a month old and already is dead, Dead, DEAD!

I knew this Wrangler was going to be a project and a learning experience, but it is definitely frustrating at times.

I really need to flush out the cooling system and replace the water pump, but there seems to always be something ahead of it.

I don’t know what the donor vehicle was but it’s a two speed OEM ford fan that I had laying around. 95 today and back to a triple digits end of the week, we get both ends of the temp Scale- I only have one wire hooked up - haven’t added the ac circuit yet however the engine temps don’t move- I like the OEM fans vs the aftermarket- don’t seem to have reliability issues with them but I also dont do much water crossing/ mud bogging either

The key difference is humidity. For the AC to cool the air it also has to condense out the moisture, and that "latent heat" can more than double the load on the AC system which has to be dumped out of the condenser right into the radiator.

There have been days in the last week that I walked outside of my 75F house and my glasses fogged up.

Check your ignition switch. Mine was worn and would allow me to pull out the key when I was past off.

That's the accessory position on a TJ.

It took me a while to find my battery draw was just me leaving the switch on.

I got a new key made and replaced the tumbler with one I could match to my existing key.

Speaking of touching up the sunburn, I decided to finally get around to that today because weather was pretty good for painting. I have used this Color rite brand with their color & clear coat kits on motorcycle tanks before with great results.

I had some fairly mild sunburnt areas but only on the windshield frame. My cowl and hood are in good shape. The only prep I did was clean with alchohol and scrub with triple 000 steel wool. Its not perfectly smooth but this aint no show-n-shine rig.

I absolutely love this paint! It flows on like butter and actually makes me feel like I know what I am doing

Not the greatest pictures but it came out pretty good and stopped the paint cancer for a while.

Looks great! Where did you buy the Color Rite from? I see it on Amazon but shipping is $14. Andy

Could you elaborate on sources, please?

HVAC blower motor chirping noise fix:

The chirping started yesterday. Didn't go away at any fan speed.

Watched this vid:

Easy removal.

The fan had a bunch of leaves. (17 years worth!) Removed the leaves, cleaned the fan, re-installed.

Turned it on — chirping continued.

Removed it again.

Hit the underside shaft hole with WD-40.

Re-installed.

Boom. Noise gone.
