Best gear ratio for Dana 30 front and Dana 44 rear?

♧ My notes have my final 6th at 0.84
The Ax15 5th gear was 0.79.
For those that can't math and don't know, that difference in the 2 final ratios is 5% or 1 gear step. In other words, if you wanted similar RPM at a given speed on the same size tire, you would gear the AX 1 step lower than the NSG 370. I did not consult any feelings to arrive at those numbers.
 
I don't remember this forum being this rude. Sign of the new times. I'm just not in the camp of enjoying running down the freeway at 3500rpm at any speed. If you all can afford that, cheers to you and your oil stocks.

What gear ratio and transmission and at what speed and tire size would result in 3500rpm?

Ive got a 03 with nv3550 and 30/44 combo and regeared to 4:88s as I was on 33's but soon after found some 35s for a good price. I only went with 4:88 until I find a front axle so then i can put 37s and then regear to 5:38's

You are limited to 5.13’s with your 30. And neither the 30 nor the 44 is really up to 37’s. 35’s are fine with the right shafts.

Accuracy is very often perceived as arrogance by them that are mistaken as to how things work. You are the one that seems to be unable to figure out gear ratio, tire size, RPM, and MPH, not us, we know how to do it and are more than willing to teach those who can't. That doesn't make us rude or arrogant, just experienced.

Yea I have Revolution gears axles and gears already in there with lockers and the 35s are alright but going to 37s will push the limits of the current axles but when they fail I will get something better in its place, I just dont know exactly which way I want to go. I was thinking JL/JK axles with truss and C braces or currie/dynatrac

Nobody's being rude, it's just that your overall complaints, rpm numbers, and goals don't really add up. The setup you had previously that you speak highly of doesn't match the numbers it should.

I would have liked to have gone with a 5.38 ratio but costs of swapping to a Dana 44 front were high so kept my Dana 30. I have been happy with the 5.13 ratio I went with.

Also, my understanding is that I would lose some ground clearance going to a Dana 44 over the Dana 30 that I kept. Am I right on that?

5.13s with your 35s and 5-speed is a pretty optimal choice.

However, I think you should have upgraded your tie rod from 5.13 to 5.38 ;)

FWIW I have 5.13s waiting to go in with 35s and a 6 speed with a hpd30 and Dana 44 combo. Don't be afraid to run a little RPM in your brick of a vehicle.

The added weight and increased rotational masss associated with a bigger tire build are often overlooked in the name of gear ratio charts.

I got a chance to use the 4.88s on the rocks and up and back from the mountain. I really am enjoying the 241s 4to1 first gear. I did notice i was shifting in and out of 4wd on the straight trails. Before I just ran the gears in low.
On the highway I was in 4th and 5th most of the way up. Pegged in 6th on the way down.
37s and 4.88 puts me at 3000 rpm at 75. It's a happy medium for me.
