Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

New York After 15 years of design and fabrication, time to downsize

I think this is the grille design that Jeep should have done, I think it's more in the tradition of the Jeep heritage than the factory TJ grille. And FWIW, it offers much more airflow than the factory grille.

I will offer this mold for $300 with rights for commercial use, which means if you want to make grille overlays in this mold and sell them you may.
@Jezza

Would likely help with cooling and intercooler fitment issues 😉

I dug a few more items out of storage that I won't be needing anymore.

First, a 2-gallon air tank. It's only been used for testing so it's in excellent condition. Excellent to add to your on-board air system. Similar 2-gallon tanks for $80-$90 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/var-91022), I'll ask $35 for this one.

AirTank1.jpg

AirTank2.jpg

If you want to calculate shipping for the tank, it'll pack up at 17 x 8 x 8 and 9 lbs.

I also came across another 8-gang switch panel, it's in the first photo above. It's Auxbeam's high-end panel, with Bluetooth control that enables control of the circuit from a smartphone: https://auxbeam.com/products/ar-800-multifunction-rgb-switch-panel-system-qp008526-1 . I also have one of their dual 8-gang panels (https://auxbeam.com/products/qp009818). I've also still got the 6-gang panel. I haven't decided if I should keep all or get rid of one or two of them, if I decide to get rid of some more of them I'll post them with a price.

I also came across several more Blitz jerry can trays that I forgot that I had. They're in slightly used condition and have mounts which I can remove before shipping if you don't need or want them. There's a bit of trail dirt on the trays from testing but that will wash off.

BlitzTrays2.jpg

BlitzTrays3.jpg

These were prototypes which became MORryde products. The ones with the larger mounts fit in 2" receivers and are the prototypes for the MORryde TJ side mounts: https://www.morryde.com/products/jerry-can-side-mount-with-tall-tray/. The receivers for these that bolt to the TJ's frame are not included so if you can't use them with the receiver mounts I can remove them before shipping. One of them (the left one in the first photo) has a small bit of paint chipping in one corner but otherwise is in great condition.

RiverCrossing3_zpsfc3b2715.jpg

The one with the smaller mount is the prototype for the MORryde spare tire mount jerry can carrier: https://www.morryde.com/products/jeep-jerry-can-spare-tire-mount-with-tall-tray/.

CaliforniaPass3_zpse146ce41.jpg

RiverCrossing1_zps05161601.jpg

As with the side mounts, the part that bolts to the spare tire carrier isn't included so if you don't want the bracket that's on the back of the tray I'll remove it before shipping. $25 each for your choice of the Blitz jerry can holders, all 3 for $60.

In trail photos above the jerry can carriers are the MORryde production versions of the ones I'm offering; I only used the Blitz versions for testing and switched to the MORryde production ones when they were released.

I've got a lot more to go through and offer here but these may be the last I post until after I get back from the Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion.

I've got one last Blitz jerry can tray to get rid of, all the rest have been sold. This one is in excellent condition as you can see in the photo. $25.

The Auxbeam light bar I sold earlier in this thread came back to me. The buyer said it arrived with a broken plug housing, see the photo. It was fine when it shipped out and it was still in the original Auxbeam packaging so I don't know where or how it got broken.

AuxbeamLightBar.jpg

I tested the light bar with my bench power supply; the broken plug still makes a good connection but the locking part of the housing is what's broken. The light bar works great, the broken plug is connected, it's on top of the coiled-up wiring harness:

AuxbeamLightBarTest1.jpg

The test setup:

AuxbeamLightBarTest2.jpg

I was asking $60 for this, it's on Auxbeam's web site for $109.99. In its current condition with the broken plug housing I'll ask $40. Shouldn't be hard to swap the plugs or just hardwire it. If I were going to use it, I'd put a pair of two-conductor SAE plugs on it (like 4-pin trailer connectors, only with 2 pins, there's a pair of SAE connectors in the photo above) and call it good. The details of the light bar on the Auxbeam site: https://auxbeam.com/collections/led-light-bars-by-series-5d-pro-series/products/zd000677). 12,000 lumens, it's pretty powerful for a 12" light bar considering that standard Halogen headlight bulbs put out about 1000 lumens in low beam.

LightBarBumper.jpg

As I post this, the 2-gallon air tank is still available. I'm asking $35, similar 2-gallon tanks sell for $80-90: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/var-91022

AirTank2.jpg

Also the Bluetooth RGB halo headlights are also still available as is the mold that made the grille overlay seen in this video demonstrating the headlights:

—— New stuff...

In the process of doing the CJ Grille Kit for the TJ, I also did a Jeepster Commando hood to fit the TJ. I also did a replic Hurst Commando hood scoop. I just did these as an "art project", which is what I say when I make something just for the challenge of making it but I don't intend to use it. This is an original Hurst Commando:

OmixHurst1_zps9b251220.jpg

I did test install it on my LJ, here are a few photos (in these photos I just set the hood in place; my CJ grille was installed so I also set fiberglass "Commando grille ears" in place to roughly simulate what it would look like with a Commando grille:

LJ8HurstCommando2_zps7f2d2c5b.jpg

The original Hurst scoop had a tachometer in it; this replica has a mounting area that can hold two standard-size gauges:

The scoop posed on my LJ pickup:

HurstScoopReplica12.jpg

Another view of the scoop:

HurstCommandoScoop1.jpg

The complete setup on my test tub in the workshop:

HurstCommandoHood1_zps78284c51.jpg

I've still got the hood, the scoop and a Commando grille and I don't plan to use any of them.

I'd like to see these go together so if anyone thinks a TJ Commando would be cool to have these may be for you - hood, factory Commando grille, and Hurst Commando hood scoop. Make an offer.

After the weekend I'm off to the Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion so this is the last post I'll do offering items for sale until I get back from the show.

I'm guessing one would need the CJ fenders to make this work?

I'm guessing one would need the CJ fenders to make this work?

These parts were designed to work with the CJ Grille Kit fenders and cowl panel, but factory or aftermarket CJ fenders would work, they would just need to be lengthened at the back to allow for the fact that the TJ engine compartment is longer than the CJ engine compartment, it's a fairly simple sheet metal mod. There are other ways to get there though, for example the Commando grille could be modified to match the curve where the TJ fenders bolt to the grille.

Also the TJ cowl panel has a raised center section and the factory Commando hood (and this TJ version) doesn't have that raised section; it would be a fairly simple sheet metal mod to lower that raised section down to meet the hood.

Or... it may work out that I could lend the CJ Grille Kit fender and cowl molds to the buyer so they could have a local fiberglass shop make bolt-on parts.

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. ;)

I've got a lot of friends in the Jeepster-Commando club. I'm sure one of them would be interested in the front end. I'll forward this info out to them.

Thank you.

If any of the fiberglass parts or molds I offer don't find a new home, I'll be cutting them into small pieces to put them out with my weekly trash.

Update on items:

The air tank is sold.

The light bar, the Bluetooth RGB headlights and one Blitz Jerry Can Tray are still available.

I'll be heading for the Smoky Mountain Jeep invasion in a few days so I won't post any more items until I return. I dug out the molds for the Cool Cowl today, so those will be on offer when I get back and I'll try to decide about the remaining Auxbeam switch panels - I've got a 6-gang, and 8-gang with Bluetooth control, and a dual 8-gang (two 8-switch panels and one control unit), I haven't decided if I'll keep them all or get rid of some.

That sucks for any of them to go to waste. I'd buy a completed grill in a heartbeat, but the mold would involve me making my own and I'm not up for that.

Received your packages today btw. Thank you!

I've got one last Blitz jerry can tray to get rid of, all the rest have been sold. This one is in excellent condition as you can see in the photo. $25.

What’s the weight capacity? I think it would make a neat tool shelf in the shop, if no one else has claimed it for actual Jerry can use.

Still available - the Auxbeam RGB/Bluetooth halo headlights. Here's a video demo I forgot I had done back when I reviewed these headlights:

They look brighter and more colorful in person, I did the video with my phone, which isn't a high end one. These lights are currently on the Auxbeam web site for $129.99, I'm asking $70.

Also I will offer the mold for the CJ/JL style grille overlay for the TJ seen in the video above. Here are a few photos of the overlay installed on a TJ grille, starting with a comparison between the factory grille and this one:

View attachment 449672

In these next photos, the overlay is installed on a factory TJ grille shell:

View attachment 449673

View attachment 449674

View attachment 449675

View attachment 449676

And in this photo, the radiator has been installed.

View attachment 449677

This next photo is the mold, in this photo it has been prepped with mold release and it is ready to make a part. Grille overlays can be made with or without recesses for the turn signals. To make an overlay with recesses, the recess forms (the gray circles) are held in place in the mold with double-sided tape and the joint between the form and the mold is sealed with a fillet of modeling clay as seen below. For a grille overlay without turn signal recesses, the recess forms are omitted.

View attachment 449678

The overlay installs over the front of the factory grille; since the new slots take up a larger area than the factory slots, the slots in the factory grille get cut out before installing the overlay.

Wished this grill overlay idea would have taken flight. I’d like to have one with the JL lights. Too bad I know nothing about fiberglass and how to use this mold.

A few more things I don't need anymore...

Another Cool Cowl. This is the one that was tested on my Jeep pickup. It's been painted Flame Red + Clear Coat so if your Jeep isn't Flame Red all it will need is a light scuffing before you repaint it to match your Jeep. I painted it with Duplicolor rattle can color and clear and it's a perfect match for my Flame Red Jeep.

The underside has a duct that makes it easier to interface to things like the Windstar and Spectre intakes and route cold air into the engine compartment.

Shown here propped up on my test tub, you can see how the ductwork can be routed into the engine compartment.

Asking $250 for this one. Air prefilter not included, the one I had has been sold. They can be found here and other places: https://www.dieselequipmentinc.com/products/x002014. At the firewall in the photo above, I used a pair of 2 1/2" ports bolted back-to-back over a hole in the firewall. These work pretty well: https://www.rockler.com/2-1-2-dust-port. They also have a range of other fittings of various sizes and shapes.

If anyone is interested in the Cool Cowl molds, I will probably let those go too. With them you would have the ability to make Cool Cowls for sale. Contact me if interested.

OEM Rear Crossmember. OEM part #52058121AB. Discontinued. New old stock, never installed. I found these on Amazon for $393 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V40J4T8/?tag=wranglerorg-20) and on eBay for $222-$323 (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=52058121AB+&_sacat=0&rt=nc&Brand=Mopar&_dcat=6030). Crown sells a replacement version, that one seems to go for $112-$242 on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=52058121AB+&_sacat=0&rt=nc&Brand=Mopar&_dcat=6030), but I don't know if it's the same quality as the OEM part.

Asking $150, which puts it in the price range of the Crown part.

The mold for the CJ/JL-Style Grille Overlay is still available.

$300, which includes the rights to use it to make grille overlays to sell.

Seems like the crowd here isn't interested in molds though, so if any molds I offer don't sell after a few weeks they'll be cut up and scrapped.

If no one decides to buy the grille overlay mold. I’ll be willing to pay the shipping to Los Angeles. I’ll just hate for it to be cut up I understand you have to let things go. I’ll just hang it up at the shop.

The red Cool Cowl and the mold for the CJ/JL style grille overlay for the TJ have found new homes.

Today I'll offer the molds for the Cool Cowl. There are two molds - the main panel and the inside duct.

CoolCowlMolds.jpg

I'll offer this mold for $300 including the right to make Cool Cowls for sale.

——

Still available: The Auxbeam RGB Bluetooth headlights and the Auxbeam light bar. Also one jerry can tray, and the TJ rear frame crossmember.

——

I've been asked a few times about the three Auxbeam multi-gang switch panels I still have. I've got a 6-gang, an 8-gang with Bluetooth control, and an 8-gang dual panel system. Still thinking about which ones I want to keep and which to let go, when I decide I'll post the one(s) I can live without.

——

Continuing my downsizing... off to the metal recycler yesterday...

MetalRecycler.jpg

The front sections of those tubs were key to making the fiberglass front clip CJ Grille Kit for the TJ, and I offered them for free at the beginning of this thread but since nobody wanted them they're just excess steel so off they went. 260 lbs., the current rate at the local metal recycler is 5.5 cents per pound, you can do the math.

I was fortunate to obtain one of the early Auxbeam switch panel kits from @jscherb a year or so ago. I was at the starting line with building all the needed switches, panels, relays etc to run a bunch of accessories and was really frustrated. The Auxbeam panel simplified it tremendously. One harness through the firewall to connect the switch panel and the control unit and a power wire or two and I was done (one to the battery and one to switched power).

If you're planning to add switches, the Auxbeam units are great. Just sayin...

Auxbeam install.

Please don't do that. Just so we all sleep better knowing they are out there somewhere.

But really, I think I'm interested in the flame red cool cowl. I'll send you a PM now.

Thanks for posting all of this. Even just the pics are inspirational.
