Can't afford psc, so looks like I'll go lares or BBB. any word on redhead? They were suggested by the mechanic, and in the price range of the lares

Redhead makes me nervous. Have seen questionable reviews over their products, also, last I checked they only advertised the box ratio as one ratio, not variable. I would want a variable ratio box, like stock. That was why I never went with redhead.

Also, yes they (Redhead) are reman and you can’t really do a good job remanning a steering gear unless it wasn’t worn out to begin with.

As i looked more into it i see redheads are reman

To the best of my understanding, that is the reality for every option unless you are willing to spend the money for PSC. In large part, you are paying for the new housing.

Lares and BBB are new. Unless somehow they’re lying about where they get the box from and are rebuilding old ones still. But they are a more recent option (from 4-5 years ago) and claim they are brand new, as opposed to all the ones before them from Cardone and similar.

Don’t know where Lares and BBB get theirs from though, so I have had a small bit of skepticism about them being new as well. But that’s what they say they are.

I'd have no worries on them being new. There are several out there.

Are you saying you’ve used new ones that have also been problematic, especially the two brands in question?

At first I read your post to say that only PSC sells new, and that’s why you use them (in addition to being able to order customized bore sizes)

New is only one of the reasons. The rest of them are as or more important. I have no experience with other new steering gears besides OEM.
