I was wondering how many other people have put in a new stereo & or speakers in their tj. I switched to a Kenwood KMM-BT518HD and some pulk db speakers and it completely made a difference in the sound quality I was getting out of the jeep.

Nice taste in music! I’m running a JVC Media player and Polk Audios all the way around and quite happy with the setup.

Ditto, grew up listening to Bob in my Mom’s 66 Mustang on 8 track.

I installed a similar model of Kenwood HU, some aftermarket speakers, and a extra something to kick it up a notch. You'll like my musical choice me thinks.

The OEM HU is not very good and one of the first updates I did as sound quality is at best tolerable. Similar Kenwood HU as you, love streaming spotify! I do not have HD radio though, and was thinking of upgrading since I do listen to the radio, and also because streaming quality has only been getting better in the newer HUs.

I did get a "Jeep itch" and decided to modify my overhead speaker pods to fit a component set of speakers along with a crossover.

The OEM HU is terrible the sound was washed out and had a lot of noise. Sure you could put up with it but it was a huge difference when putting a new one in.

Try running a small amp to those speakers to really hear a difference. I just installed a small 4 channel alpine under the steering wheel behind the plastic panel. You simply splice power from the head unit, no need for dedicated power.

I'm running a Kenwood HU with JBL's up front and bought the VDP six speaker sound bar...but like @skrelnik I got the itch and replaced the 5in sound bar speakers with Sound stream ones....so much better, especially with the top off.

I actually did a full redo (and personal install) on my 97TJ, with new Kicker 3way Fronts, New overhead Soundbar and upgraded to Soundstream Speakers (w/components), two-8" Soundstream Subs (built my own custom, shallow box for rear, facing subs down to provide more bass thump to balance all around AND protect the subs) with a 200w Soundstream amp under the backseat out of the way, capped off with a single-din Alpine Head Unit. Like some of the current Top 40s music and alternative, but huge fan of the 80's rock and general top 40 music, so we get a lot of great balance, bass and overall good balanced sound, especially with the top off, wife loves it!

I’m running the JVC head and Polk speakers with a Sound Ordnance amp on the Polks and a powered Sound Ordnance sub under the back seat. It was a huge improvement and being able to stream music instead of relying on the radio was worth the work.
