Currie 3 inch or 4 inch lift?

This is the other side of the jeep, where you can see the opposite tire is drooping but the front tire is now stuffed into the front fender. This shows that even the front needs more than a 4" lift kit for doing trails.

Perhaps I’m confused, but that image doesn’t say anything. I can make an identical picture with a 2” or 6” lift.
 
So it’s more so a matter of bump stop with fender clearance being raised with a body lift. Seems that 3 in of added clearance is needed and is favored through 2in extended bump stop which is paired with a 4in lift for good up travel and a 1.25in body lift to fit 35s.

I see. That’s what I didn’t understand. I thought it was just sitting, and I couldn’t figure out why the clearance was so low. Thanks!

Correct me if my thought process is wrong but I was alway under the assumption that you match the compressed shock length to the bump stop that is needed for axle and tire clearance then the spring just sets the ride height for given how much bump stop you have so you have a good 50/50 split. So the shock isn’t a consideration of lift till the bump stop has been set.

The shock determines the travel. Your job is to select the most appropriate shock size that fits what you have to work with. From there, the bump stops get extended enough to closely match the compressed length of the shock. The goal is to make the soft jounces compress and slow down the final amount of shock travel before full shock compression.

The bump stops do not determine the suspension travel. The shocks do that.

If you want to base your ride height off the 50/50 point of your shock you can do it that way. Or, if you already have a ride height determined, you pick a shock that's close to 50/50 and then set your bump stop.

That makes a lot more sense now especially when talking about smaller lifts that aren’t as standardized like a Currie 4inch is in my mind. Completely reverse in my thought process but makes sense when shock travel and ride height are more a priority to getting set then match the bump for the coil and shock.

The goal for shock travel is 50/50 from the ride height. However, that becomes difficult to achieve where close enough is all you can do. After that, and you care about good shocks that are installed properly, you are building shock mounts.

Currie/Rockjock is not standardized other than it is condusive for a very good build on 35s with a lot of additional work.

Under careful consideration, I have decided to go with the 4 inch springs. Shocks are whole different ball of wax, I have the softer OME shocks and I think they do a pretty good job. I feel like going with the fox with the remote resi's, I have heard of people having good luck with King aswell. I would say ride comfort is a big priority, Any opinions to share? Fox has a few different set ups, but honestly my suspension knowledge of what currently is on the market needs a tune up. Cheers.

the most important thing is getting the shocks properly tuned by a competent tuner

Good choice on 4". Many more shock choices. For ride quality, outboard the rear shocks and get tuned Fox Resi's on all 4 corners. Along the way sell an arm and a leg to be able to afford it.

Yeah I was hoping to get an off the shelf or standard shock that works fairly well out of the box. I understand they can be pricey. I know a shop that is running 20 percent off fox suspension right now. These options are standard no custom tuning, I am not in a huge hurry. I need to do more research on this topic.

Do you also have to convert the front lights to take an eye instead of a stud? I didn't see any stud ended fox resis last time I looked but I might not have been in the right place.

All I want for Christmas is some tunable shocks that will directly replace my ranchos with similar travel and bias. 🤣
