Rear Cargo box DIY or buy?

Was just curious to see everyones rear cargo box setups and share some pros/cons. Wondering if it's worth the time to build my own or just order one!
*i don't have the backseat and don't plan on putting it nack in*

I recently just bought and installed the Tuffy rear security compartment. I don’t use the back seat either and this uses that space. I liked this one because you can lift up the lid and re-secure it easily based on the design. It is secured by closing and locking the tailgate.
The only thing that sucked was when I installed it. The holes are predrilled with still having the carpet in. I removed my carpet so I had to redrill holes, which wasn’t a bog deal since I already had the power tools to do it.

I recently installed the Tuffy 058 security drawer. I don't use my back seat either. I was hesitant for a long time because of the price but finally pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did. I put the carpet from the floor (bed rug) over the top and secured with Velcro. I also added 4 tie down hinges to the top. I love not having to load and unload tools, etc every time I want to go on a trail ride. Also keep the top off in the summer. I used a gift card to get the center console as well and have them keyed alike. Cost too much but I'd do it again.

I made a rear storage box. It has two full slide out drawers (with lids) and a side storage compartment. The front door doubles as a shelf. There are two bolts that go through to the rear seat brackets. It’s secued down in the back with bolts and has a strap over the top. The wood is raised on three sides on the top. I figure I can strap some stuff to the top of the box if needed.

I wouldn’t put this in the category of secure storage. Someone with a BFH and a crow bar could get at it. But with the rear door locked it works for me.

Question ...... not to de-rail this thread, but .... what are the two brackets/clips that are just visible along the bottom edge of David's storage box? I have them, they were in the glove compartment when I purchased my '04. Any info much appreciated. Apologies to David.

Those are tie downs for a child car seat when in the back seat.

Did you mount the drawer on the bottom of the tub or on risers? And can you upload pictures of this setup?

I recently got my hands on the Smittybilt rear storage unit for too good a price. Very happy with everything it holds. Anything else we need to pack can be netted or bungied to the top.

I had to adjust the mounting holes because it has to sit all the way to the passenger wheel well for the drawer to clear the tailgate striker. It uses the seatbelt and seat bracket mounting holes in the tub to secure it.

The only issue I had — now corrected — is that the back panel is only spot welded and let rain into the drawer. That's now caulked with RTV.
