Need a Trektop NX hack

Not sure if I have said it here but I rarely run the Trektop at all. I usually just have a safari top on and in that mode it's very noisy in the wind. The strait safari top is much quieter even though its a real pain to get in the front channel and strapped down.

Yeah it's a bitch for sure, I have the same issue and have thought about notching the foam in that spot to help get the straps through. I keep mine in bikini top mode most of the year and have never run without the straps. But I wonder if his top would flap less if he fastened those, and he should have plenty of room without roll bar padding.

I initially ran with the straps around the bar, but have to loosen the pods to get them to go through... but using them also bunched up the top a little, and water would collect in the bunched up pockets... I stopped using the straps. Maybe just a TJ thing? Does it bunch on the TJU?

It bunches on my LJ. Looks weird. I haven't tried without the straps. Maybe I'll do that later today.

Unhitch the header bar clamps first.

This is what I do with my Quadratec soft top, works well. Makes it much easier to undo the plastic retainer strips

Do you fasten the straps around that part of the bar?

I never use those straps and haven't noticed any difference.

Front bow is gone. Funny how much more open the top looks without that 2" wide strip of aluminum.

I undid the two buckles at the B-pillar roll bars and let the straps hang. It's still a little bunched up because the webbing is still pinched between the pods and the roll bar. I think the straps are just sewn too far apart from each other. I'll pull them entirely loose once I make sure I can sneak the webbing back through without having to loosen the driver side pod every time.

I run a webshade year round under my Trektop, the bow raises the webshade so I'm ok with it.

Seven minutes... does that include the door surrounds? Man, I really dislike those. And they were by far the most difficult part. They shouldn't be, but I had a hard time aligning the front hole on the passenger-side roll bar. The bottom (threaded) side of the surround didn't want to go over the bar. There was no padding in the way or anything... it just didn't want to line up.

OK - I found the reason for the straps today, and I'm going to start using them again.

One of the rear straps popped loose on the way home while the sunrider was up. I pulled over and took a look at it, and I realized that when the top is up the only thing keeping the fabric from sliding toward the back of the Jeep is those straps.

So, bunching be damned... I'm going to tie them back up.

OK - I found the reason for the straps today, and I'm going to start using them again.

One of the rear straps popped loose on the way home while the sunrider was up. I pulled over and took a look at it, and I realized that when the top is up the only thing keeping the fabric from sliding toward the back of the Jeep is those straps.

Are you referring to the straps that go down from the rear corners of the top to the tub rail?

If so, I’ve found that often when the sunrider is open and there is less forward tension on the straps the clips drop off the tub rail. Had the same problem on both of my JKs and solved it with a footman loop installed on the inner edge of the tub rail. Loosening the soft top straps and inserting the hooks from the underside of the footman loop make sure the hooks don’t drop off…

I did something similar, but I mounted the footman loop right on the cage. That way the strap does not flap in the breeze. Since the rig is usually always in this configuration, I also like the way it looks.

I turned the hook around and hook it on the lip inside the tub instead of the outside. I’ve never had them come loose.
