Bestop material question

Hi all, whats the difference between the black sailcloth and black denim options for Bestops Replace-A-Top. They're the same price but is the sailcloth just what they used to call black diamond so is the same functionally but a different texture, or is it a thicker option? Googling it I've found both answers.

Black Denim, (Including Spice and Dark Tan) is a Denim cloth material (Cotton and polyester) that is 18oz and the OEM style (Pre 2001). Its super light and sometimes considered the cheap/budget material.

Black/Spice Sailcloth is sailcloth, a 28oz fabric that is heavier and better quality material for the soft top. This started with the 2001 model according to quadratec, but cant verify that is true.

Black Twill is 30oz fabric and is the best option/latest development.

IMO, just pickup the Black Twill and call it a day. Buy once, Cry once. I did not do that and I still kick myself in the butt with how noisy and flappy my top is.

Twill is the only option for an "all-weather" soft top as far as I'm concerned.
Anything else is just the next step towards buying the twill.

As much as I'd love the twill there's just no way I could possibly afford it especially with how much more expensive it is here in Aus as no one retails it as far as I know.

Didn't even notice you are in Aus, how expensive is it to get the sailcloth vs Twill out there?

I wouldn't have the twill except we sold the hard top in favor of a soft top, so the out-of-pocket expense was low.

Shit, no way? my Sierra Offroad top is trash currently.... along with the OEM frame.

Time to get a new frame and a Sierra top......

I been meaning to ask what’s the 2nd “best top”? Sierra your preferred choice? Figured with the amount of Jeeps you have owned and your weather- you would be the go to guy!

Didn't even notice you are in Aus, how expensive is it to get the sailcloth vs Twill out there?

I'm just looking at the canvas replacements as I have the frame already but basically I have found a sailcloth bestop for about 870usd or for the twill it would cost me about 1700usd. The shippings always what gets you on this sort of stuff for us Aussies.

Me, personally have always said Bestop was the best....until it wasn't. I tried the "Cheap" Sierra Offroad top. I paid under $300 with a 3 year warranty. I will NEVER waste money on Bestop again. The warranty is 3 years and my top works /looks like new still.
Almost 3 years later and zero complaints.

Appreciate the info- l will give it a try. Been on the fence on nursing this top through another year or getting an affordable new top. With the heavier 45oz I will give that a try!

looks like the 45oz is only the available for 2005 & 2006. But they also have a few different outlets if one is easier than the other for you to purchase from.

Thats what I saw, is there anything really different for those model years anyways?

Can’t seem to find anything that mentions a difference from 97-04 and 05-06

I bought my Sierra "Trilogy" Twill Top off eBay. Was cheaper than the Sierra Off-Road website. The fabric is just as the Boog describes. Great quality at a fraction of the price of Bestop Twill. Order arrived within 1 week here in Central Texas. Just installed this past weekend.

I can only imagine the amount of flapping and slapping that thing does on the freeway.

I'm running the same Sierra top and my only complaint is the loose fit. That said, there is zero difference in the noise at speed, versus the factory top. Both are equally annoying!

What would make it not fit a 97-02 if using the original frame? Is there some major modification that is needed?
