Has anyone in here had much involvement with Jeep clubs? I'm always looking for people to wheel with and clubs seemed like a potential way to meet folks. Then I look at websites and start reading about bylaws, patrols, mandatory meetings, ECT. Offered to help out a club with trail maintenance last year but they said I needed to pay and attend X non wheeling meetings/events a year to be allowed to shovel. Own my business and not looking for extra mandatory responsibilities. Usually I wheel to get away from crowds, the whole club thing seems counter intuitive. Has anyone here had positive experiences with clubs? I know they do a lot to help keep trails open

We have a couple or three around here. They seem to be OK, but apparently live and breathe facebook, which counts me out. I've been told that when a club says a trail is beginner level, its really moderate at least; and if its billed as "moderate", its probably "OMFG". *SHRUG*

I'm pretty anti club because of all the nonsense that goes with it. I have done a lot of wheeling with club members and done club events that I was not a member of.

I just wanna wheel not by myself, help open/ close trails, and make pit toilets great again.

hahah I'm looking for OMFG friends

I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.

But in all seriousness, this place is a close to a club as I get, and I enjoy wheeling with the local guys I’ve met on here. Also, I share Zorba’s hate for facebook and not having an account limits many options.
I'm a big believer of "Stranger Danger!!", another reason groups seem like a bad idea. Spent the last hour scrolling FB Jeep groups... you and Zorba aren't missing out

I support more poopers! Few of the groups seem to have large numbers so there's got to be some type of draw, I just don't see it

I tried with the hardest core group around here but they meet on Tuesday night an hour from me and I work Tuesday nights.

Then I tried a very social group that has lots of guys and gals. Again, meetings about an hour away. It just won’t work right now. I’ve got too many responsibilities.

If I go wheel I don’t want to stand around and talk about your dog. I want to wheel. I don’t want to talk about your long arm junk. I just want to wheel. After we wheel I’ll talk.

What was the social group? It's the mid week meet ups that I'm not really interested in just want to wheel. I'm off Sun, Mon, Thurs... if you're ever running hit me up I'll ditch my dog and stay in my rig lol

North Idaho Jeeps is the social one. North Idaho Trailblazers is the hardcore one. I could do some Monday’s and I’m off Thursday’s. Where are you located? If you bring the dog that’s fine. I make fast friends with pups. 😁

Ok, yeah, I was like, CO? Maybe he splits time between the two areas, but no such luck. There are a few trails. I just bought OnX, so that will help me find some more.

I went OnX, then switched to trails offroad both were good. We have one here called CoTrex that's free from the State. It's a little stripped down but dummy proof, I use it more than either of the pay ones

I went out with a group and half the guys worked at a local shop that built anything that goes offroad. Jeeps, Broncos, Tundras, a lifted C body 4 door chevy flatbed truck, stock to 40s, etc.

Island of misfit off road vehicles. No f'n ducks anywhere.

Other than here, I'm not into Jeep clubs. They tend to be newer Jeeps, ducks, stickers, 20" rims and other stuff I don't care about.

Looking at websites thats the vibe I've been picking up on

Around me the Facebook clubs are social clubs for fun and ducking. Not my style.

I only socialize whilst standing around ridiculing someone hung up on a rock ledge they knew they couldn't climb but tried anyway, or something similar.

I do belong to a club. It only requires attending a meeting and doing a few trips to maintain membership.

Here in the Northeast if you want to do any type of decent wheeling that doesn't require driving 4 hours away to a public place, you need to join an offroad club. Luckily that means we have a lot of offroad clubs. Any decent offroad club is also a part of one or two parent organizations around here so we all communicate with one another on some level. I have only been with the one club I am a part of now, but in talking with other folks my experience is that there is a wide range of styles/cultures of clubs up this way and some have had to search around a bit and get out to see what the club is like before finding the right one for them. Some are more strict on requirements, some are much more laid back and just want people to get out and wheel. Not sure you'll find the same experience where you are but thats what us folks with no access to public land get to deal with. I imagine for most of you folks out west it is more of a better way to just connect with other offroaders and not have to go out alone more than it is a neccessity to actually get out and offroad.

In the DC area, the Facebook ducking mall-crawler clubs dominate. There are two offroad clubs and I belong to one, primarily because I want to know the people who I wheel with and that they won't be a hazard to me or themselves. I made the mistake of going wheeling with one FB group once because the group going swore they had all been off-roading at Wolf Den Run State Park (a place I helped get opened and know well) and even if they were bozos (they were) I wouldn't be in over my head. Instead, I ended up leading and most didn't know diddly about wheeling. It was a horrible trip.
