You'll definitely need gears and the right driveshaft. I'm probably missing things, but you'll need those for sure!

Chris I was looking to get the sye because I plan on doing the belly up. And gears will be done when I order the axle. Is that a good price, Or should I look elsewhere? I saw one on Craig's list they wanted 250 with nothing and I believe it had drum brakes but not 100% sure. Would it be wise to put in a locker while I have everything open?

It's definitely less costly to install a locker at the same time new gears are being installed since there's no additional labor required to install the locker there would be if you installed the locker later. Likely cost savings are about $300 per axle in labor when you install the lockers with the gears vs. having them installed later.

What locker would you recommend and what additional parts would be needed? I apologize for the ignorance but I have never messed with lockers but after getting stuck lockers would have came handy.

Before making a locker recommendation, tell us about your local driving conditions and if anyone else will be driving the Jeep. Like do your streets and highways get slick from snow or ice? Would you have to drive in those conditions or do you have another vehicle to drive? How tough are the trails you drive on and what were you doing when you got stuck? What do you typically wheel on? Sand? Rocks? Mud or dirt?

All of that affects what kind of locker would be best. And is your budget very tight or is that not much of a problem?

The Jeep will be 90 percent off road. On our property we have from sand mud dirt gravel and sand stone. Last weekend when I got stuck we were mudding and I slid into a fairly large size run. If I would have had bigger tires it may have came out. My rear driver was about 8 inches off ground and my front passenger was about 3 inches off ground. If I would have had a larger tire it may have been fine. Now I have a Ford focus for my dd since my commute is about 1.5 hrs each way if conditions are bad enough where I need a 4x4 I would definitely be taking they jeep.

That sounds absolutely ideal for a Detroit Locker. Simple, stupid-strong, less costly than a selectable, and probably the best behaved automatic locker available. I loved mine on my previous TJ and I still miss its simplicity. For some reason I have trouble remembering to turn my current TJ'sselectable lockers on which makes me wonder how the trail became more difficult than I remembered LOL.

Thanks Jerry! I will definitely look into adding them as well. Gotta save up some pennies about a month or two I'll be showing some pictures. Another thing Jerry I was talking to you I believe about regearing for 33s but at this point might as well aim for a low center of gravity build with 35s. You recommend 4.10s with 33s now my question will be about 35s I will still have the dana 30 in the front. Would 4.88 be ideal?

What transmission do you have Ivan? I only recommend 4.10 for 33's when the transmission is the 3-speed automatic.
