As a teenager I lived in one of Britain’s biggest brewing towns. You could forecast the weather by sniffing the air in the morning for the wind direction.
Options included yeast (brewing), pork pies (not as nice as it sounds, smelt like dog food), marmite (famously divisive), and a burning electrical smell from a factory.

That's like Denver! Except the smells are the dog food factory or the feedlots (cow shit)

When I first moved to Wyoming, I was on the phone with my Dad- hanging out on the front steps bs-ing with him.
I made a comment about there must be a fairly large kennel in the area. Smelled like dog shit.
Turns out it was the sugar factory!?
