+1 for crutchfield and a single DIN Sony unit. Great upgrade. I already have 3 cars with CarPlay and screens so I figured I could keep the jeep stuck in the early 2000s.

Connect to this, connect to that, can't backup without a camera, can't drive ahead without a camera, can't have a sh!t in the bush without posting the result of FacePlant . . . .truly a wtf generation!

This is absolutely the case. A crappy radio matched with quality speakers and an amp can be amazing.

Also, be weary of off brand deck/amp power ratings. 100 watts of 10 percent distortion will sound like ass compared to 50 watts of 5 percent. Also, an under powered speaker will choke out quality sound.

Match the amp and speaker in your mind first. Then choose a head unit. Or choose a quality head unit to power the speakers. Your ears will thank you.

Part of me wants a nicer stereo but I run topless all summer and feel like it would get stolen for sure. Don't leave anything in my Jeep I'm worried about losing

That brings back memories. I used to have a Blaupunkt like that. It was the first cassette deck I ever had that would FF/REW and switch sides... late 80's?

That's pretty much the exact same unit I have except it has a feature where it will auto-switch to the local weather station if there's an alert. That works, BUT the thing has to be turned on in the first place which it may or may not be. In any event, I really like it - rugged, waterproof, and it doesn't look stupid.
