Sounds like you had fun and a great test run!

It was a good time! Some good obstacles I wish I got more pics but me and this group have been up there so much we just keep moving. I like to think we were living in the moment.

Some scratches on the new armor and I almost flopped it at one point. Came home in one piece with just some heavy pinstripes, typical for east coast wheeling

I post this to help show and remind me that you don’t have to or need a “spec” build to go out there and have fun. I enjoy the building the process as much as wheeling but I have to remind myself at times how much fun the adventure of a trip brings.

We share a similar mindset when it comes to Jeep builds and I have to remind myself to not be so obsessive. While I've gotten a little better, I'm pretty sure I'll never get over it!

I won’t ever be completely over it. It’s changed though with kids. I enjoy working on it but can always allow the time required to get completely perfect with my sweeping warrior skill level.

Built a better tire repair kit then my cheap set I was using. If anyone is interested, all this fits in the safety seal bag easily.

I wanted to make a joke that the second picture first took me as your emergency beef jerky supply — but I won't stoop to that, since you put together such a nice and complete kit.

I have a couple buddies like that. They bring their junk and send it. One is pretty particular about doing things "right" so his rig is pretty dependable...he just doesn't care about a little body damage or trail breakage. He has an inexpensive TJ, with a cheap lift and mish mash of parts. Lunchbox up front, limited slip in the back, 33's and a heavy right foot. Always has a blast.

The other guy also drives junk, and is just flat out cheap. Like wire nuts in the engine bay cheap. The frustrating thing for me is that he's cheap because he's lazy, not out of necessity. He could have a really nice rig, if he wanted to. He has both the intelligence and the financial ability to do so. He and I have had a few discussions about durability and how he "fixes" things. Like...No one wants to slow down their wheeling trip fixing the same guy's junk over and over because he doesn't do things correctly. He's getting better after a couple of these conversations...

Pulled the front arb. Arb was leaking at the seal housing. I can’t find a smoking gun with the o rings. I am thinking it’s just my placement of the seal housing and shim stack. I have a tight preload on this using a case spreader.

Can anyone confirm the dana30 spec is .015 for the case spreader? I am going off memory.

I need to move some of the smaller shims to the outside of the seal housing based on what I can find with similar issues. Below is what I’m working with. My assumption is the seal housing needs to sit further onto the locker and this eventually caused my leak.

I agree with you. It doesn't matter how many shims go outboard, just that the space between the two O rings is over the air inlet hole. If you have a thicker shim between the seal housing and the bearing, try moving it first before trying to put a thinner shim outboard. It'll make life easier for the install.

Correct, the ARB master shim has to stay on the inboard side of the seal housing.

I can't remember off the top of my head if it's 15 thou or 20 thou, but I think it's 20. It's listed in the FSM, so take a look.

Locker seems to be leak free for a few weeks now. Moved one shim and new orings.

Trail clean up later this month will be a better test.

Done some wheeling in VA last month. Tripped 94k miles while on the trail. Hopefully doing some more over the summer.

There were at lot of TJ’s at the VA4wda annual ride.

Haven’t had much time this summer to put the rub rail on between work travel and vacation. Hopefully getting them on in the next few weeks before a trail clean up for a fall event.

Jeep threw an evap leak code and o2 code but it had been sitting a while. Keeping eye on it.


Jeep is sticking around though so no worries there!

I did have a big change on the auto side of life. Great uncle passed down a hot rod 34 Chevy master he built in the early 2000’s. It’s very clean I just need to run through fluids and fuel system since it’s been sitting. Wild to have a car nearly 100 years old.

Sitting at my parents now while we go through it.
