CEL bulb must have burned out.

Found that out in 2022 when I went to get it inspected. CEL was burned out, so it failed the initial test. That turned into finding surprise codes, which resulted in fixing some engine compartment wiring, which resulted in unrequested smoke release from behind the dash, which resulted in removing the entire dash to replace some melted wires and correcting fuse sizes. THAT resulted in all the codes (and smoke) going away, and the CEL being legit off rather than redneck off.

I brought it in for inspection again, but since then it had become 25 years old and no longer needed that level of inspection. The cynic in me saw that as wasted effort. The optimist in me recognized that annoying as vehicle inspections are, that one actually found a real problem I might not have discovered for some time.

Update: After 5 weeks waiting, the 'Nilight' switch was delivered. Installed, it worked for 3 weeks. Faceplant has some videos of a 'fix' for the wornout OEM switch. Fog lights now work, but dash lights don't. Am trying to find/order the OEM $$$ switch.

Gotta get your outrage from somewhere, I guess. Personally, most of mine comes from this one douchebag ex-roommate of mine who dumped his hott yoga instructor wife in favor of a turbo-hottt former Colts cheerleader. Well, the good news. Got the diff cover and lube locker back on with some nice shiny new SS bolts:

The bad new? One of the bolts broke. Under something less than the specified 30 ft-lbs of torque. I guess I'm not ordering bolts from "bolt depot" anymore...

30 ft-lb is too high for those if they're stainless. Most of the stainless available is pretty weak stuff. The good stuff is currently both hard to find and very expensive (like $5 - $10 each).

Edited to add: There's a good chance the others yielded during tightening.

Just do one bolt at a time. Much less messy
