Frameless half door uppers?

I’ve looked around and not seen what I’m looking for, so I’m guessing it doesn’t exist.

My half door uppers are bulky. Frame, fabric, and sliding glass windows. The vinyl windows I’m sure are lighter, but likely take up just as much space.

I don’t know how it would work, but I’m wondering if anyone’s figured out a (frameless?) window that would roll up for easy storage. Maybe fit into the door surrounds for support.

My use case is for a road trip where I want to have the windows with me, but not have them take up a bunch of space.

I've not seen or heard of any that are frameless. That being said, I'd love sliding windows over my zip ones.

I would think anything that you could make attach without a frame would not be weatherproof at all and would probably flap like mad and be more trouble than they were worth. However, zip windows will be lighter than your sliders.

I've driven to Moab, Sand Hollow, the Rubicon Trail and up to Vancouver Island topless. Didn't bother bringing anything other than a tent rain fly for occasional summer rain.

If you're worried about wind noise get a headset. Rugged Radios makes excellent ones.

If you're cold in the mornings...heated seats, and I carry insulated coveralls and heated gloves...all packed in dry bags JIC things get wet.

Yeap, it’s mostly the wind noise. The wife floated the idea of taking the LJR on a multi-state trip we’ve coming up in a few weeks and…… who am I to argue?

It’ll be us and our son. I let them know we’re going to be bringing earplugs. Ultimately, we’re going to do fewer miles per day than we did a few weekends ago. I’m just looking in case someone’s put together a creative solution.

Heated seats are on the list… but it’s not going to be cold enough for those yet. Last year, before I’d bought a top, I did a 6-hour trip and it rained for half of that. The worst part was the inside of the windshield getting soaked. Made it hard to see. That won’t be an issue with the TrekTop in bikini mode. That’s probably how we’ll roll.

Yeah the Rugged Radio intercoms are fantastic. You can talk with everyone in the vehicle, use the GMRS radio or talk with folks on the phone. Listen to music or a podcast.

They’ve been on my list for awhile. What do you do with the headsets when you’re not using them/parked? Just hang them someplace?

Either disconnect and bag them or hang them from my Hooke Road rack behind the seats.

Really easy to unplug.

All options have frames.

Soft uppers with sliding windows (Bestop)
Hard uppers with sliding windows (Bulldawg iirc)
Plastic with zippers

I've attempted to get the Bestop soft sliding windows a few times. Each time they've been out of stock for months at a time. I eventually get a refund.

Last year, before I’d bought a top, I did a 6-hour trip and it rained for half of that. The worst part was the inside of the windshield getting soaked. Made it hard to see. That won’t be an issue with the TrekTop in bikini mode. That’s probably how we’ll roll.

Hate to tell you but even with the Trektop in bikini mode you will still get rain spray on the inside of the windshield.

Rain dripping off the back edge and blowing forward. Happens to me all the time even with my soft uppers installed on the half doors.

I would probably get soft uppers and see if you can rig up a case/bag to prevent scratches on the windows and store them inside the upper rear part of the top out of the way. When i'm running around town with the half doors on i'll usually just keep the uppers in the back seat but i know thats not really practical for a road trip.
