So I've noticed a few threads going a wee bit off the rails lately. I've even participated because the new topic was so entertaining, and let's face it, we are all here to be entertained ;)

In order to mitigate this practice on another forum I created a similar thread to this where any topic is fair game at any time. If you feel yourself about to hit reply but plan to type something that's going to derail (or further derail) the thread, simply copy and past the original post in here, tag the poster and put your off topic conversation here.

Now if you have something worthy of its own thread by all means create one, but of you think it's only going to be a few posts put it here.

On the other forum where I tried this it's become one of the most replied to threads after "what did you do to your jeep today"

Give it a try.

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.

Probably a few from the snorkel thread as well.

Awww, c'mon @Chris... I just have so much going on in my noggin that I just have to share it with somebody! :D I mean, haven't you ever had a conversation with someone, and ended up saying "Now, what were we talking about?" Just seems like everything's connected in some way. I just give in to that notion a little easier than most! :)

This may end-up being my "home thread' from now on! ;):D

Love the idea!

Here are my thoughts before I go to sleep. I have the soft top on and I'm dreading putting that hard top back on. When I removed it back in June, it took me and two other friends and it was not fun at all. The soft top had been awesome all summer. The rain is just starting and usually I look forward to fall/winter every year very much, but this year it's come up so abruptly. Since I got the shocks replaced with the soft top on, I'm wondering if the ride quality will change a bit after putting that 100+lb hard top on. Going to have to take the Jeep to Dave soon for the regear as well. I'm contemplating not putting the hard top, but I feel it'll make me not want to take the Jeep out of the garage much. Newbie Jeep owner problems ... Sigh.

So I recently installed the Dixie Horns on my Jeep (All 7 U joints, break pads and ball joints are in the back ready for action ) and the air horn compressor is just crap. Company is sending a new compressor. The wife is going to regret this purchase !

If I was able to get a loan for that much, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and sell my TJ to offset the cost. However, banks won't loan more than KBB or NADA value on a vehicle, so there's no way I could swing it unfortunately, even though I could afford the monthly payment.

Such a shame!

Lightstream does ;)

They just give you cash starting around 4% for private sales and don't care what vehicle you buy with it.

https://www.lightstream.com/classic-car-financing (normal auto-financing works the same way as this classic-car)

So, after seeing a number of reviews and such about how Lightstream will do used car loans without them needing to hold the title (lien), I went and test drove a two-owner '93 Dodge Cummins diesel Club Cab with 130,000 miles on it. After entering all the info (which I felt looked pretty damn promising, considering my income-to-debt ratio, years worked, etc), they contacted me the following day and said they needed the vehicle vin, price, miles, and copy of the seller's free and clear title. Turns out, if they don't feel you make enough annual income, or have enough assets, they do, in fact, want to hold the title. Not at all what I want to do. Kind of pisses me off, as I know I could pay four times (more, actually) what the monthly payments would be if I wanted to. I just don't want a lien on the title, period. Guess I'll have to just save up the money and do it the old fashioned way: cash!
Rant over.

Lightstream is definitely a cool option for when you want to finance something that any normal bank wouldn't loan money on. Of course there is a lot of other criteria such as credit score, assets, annual income, etc.

@Starrs was the one who turned me onto them.

I agree, they are a great resource. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that there would be no liens. My credit score is 798, I have $158,000 in equity in my home, I've worked four months shy of 35 years in the same place, have one credit card that's one (large-ish) payment away from a zero balance, etc, etc...you'd think I'd be a low enough risk to not deem it necessary to hold the title, wouldn't you? Grrrr...

When I applied for mine I never got a call. I was approved in 15 mins and was sent an email regarding my loan approvalal. My credit score I think was 830 at that time. I don’t have near that much equity in my home as you. This makes no sense. How much was this Dodge?

It will drive better with the hard top. Trust me, that weight always makes my shocks ride softer. It’s noticeable. Also, @Jerry Bransford used to remove his hard top by himself on his back, so I think you can do it. ;)

Looks like this thread is living up to its name. It also appears to be designed for all the non-linear thinkers (oxymoron with designed). Of course, it always makes perfect sense to them. I’m getting my Exogate hinges on Monday. One more day of official work this week for me! Yippee. Some of my kids are traveling right now. I might work tonight to get some of it done so I can get off early tomorrow. What’s your next mod? Mine is a locker I’m going to try to install on Friday. Is all this making sense? Oh brother.

The Dodge was $7,500. My application was for $12,500 for 48 months (Jeep money, right?). Payments would have been right around $300. There were no questions (initially) regarding what I was purchasing, or the price. I acknowledged it was a private seller, and that I wanted an invoiced bill (not an "auto-pay"). Still somewhat baffled by this. The kicker is that the seller is moving across the state tomorrow, and is now taking the truck with him. Seller is 82 years old, and battling cancer. He doesn't need the drama of trying to wait for me to get financing. I don't hold it against him at all.

going to install my front bumper. I was going to wait for the wife to have time. she like learning about fixing cars. I have already taught her how to fix her Harley one her own. I am afraid if i do do it with out her around she will cut me off in more ways the one.

also started digging around and found there is a different distributor for the 1997 TJ vs the 1998 TJ everything is the same except something they call a switch plate. now i'm going to google around and figure out what the hell a distributor switch plate is. The Cam sensor is identical.

Yea that’s crazy. When I did mine I clicked the private party seller option and I don’t remember it asking me anything in particular about the vehicle. It was an AEV grand Cherokee I was thinking about getting cat the time for 23k.
