In 2006, I owned a well built TJ. I also had 1 wife, 3 boys, 2 dogs and an outdoor itch I had to scratch all the time. So, the TJ gets sold and I go through a series of excellent Land Cruisers.

By 2017, I dont need that kind of room any more, so its back to a Jeep for me. Within reason and a generous budget, my wife will let me buy and build anything (no, she doesnt have a sister!). What did I choose?

A 2006 LJ Rubicon with 21k miles and a decent build. Why? Because I know this vehicle well already, I got it at a very reasonable price, I dont mind it getting dinged/ scratched and it is mechanically sound.

Happy to be back!

Welcome back to the family. Did you do all the work thats on it now or is that how you picked it up? Looks good.

Nice! I love a yellow LJ, but I gotta ask, whats the story with the red doors?
Cool cage you've got in there too.

Thanks! PO had the lift installed, added bumpers and a winch, but never took it anywhere. When I got it, the lockers were stuck, the front axle seals were leaking. He flopped it in the dunes (the 1 time he took it offroad) so its got a bunch of residual dings but he added a PS roll cage as a result.

My son and I have already fixed the lockers, added some skids and a soft top. Next will be a Currie sterring kit and the leaky axle, then brakes and tires. He likes to drive it open air to high school and wow his friends.

Hah! Picked those up last weekend. from a local parts guy on CL. For the right price we will paint them, but not sure how much they will be on there.
