I do insurance for a living but on the commercial end of things so idk they do for car insurance on that aspect, makes sense though. If you want to import one from Canada I have a friend selling a nice clean one, same color to. By the time you save 30% on the exchange you will be ahead. At least with it a fellow member of this forum could tell you exactly what happened in its minor accident.
In the case of that one though, a highway sign could be a low speed hit on a portable construction sign of a full highway speed hit to a 8x8 post (or even larger steel posts on the big overhead ones) after that many years and that many owners it's impossible to say. Given that at the time of the accident the jeep was brand new it would take a lot of damage to get a write off and cause a salvage title. Hopefully the inspections work out for you, I'd be under it looking for the smallest out of place ripple in the frame before even going to the body shop though.

From my understanding these jeeps crumple like soda cans so even hitting a 8x8 post would do significant damage. I t-boned a Toyota Corolla with my YJ but i hit it at 45 and my frame and body didn’t move an inch but i also had a 1/4” steel plate bumper that was welded. My buddy hit a parked car and his TJ was beyond repairable. So for a road sign post, it must have been very minimal damage or speed for it to not be deemed a total loss or salvage title. Idk just my guess on the situation.
Sounds like you have your mind made up already, but dont let it distract you from anything. 8 owners to me sounds like they buy it, experience an issue, and cant resolve that issue (constant wobble, death wobble, overheating, etc..).

If it were me, I'd look elsewhere. I can get past the accident with a body shop's favorable inspection. I cant get past 8 owners.

8 owners is a bit of a red flag, the accident issue, given you can have a pro take a look at it is minor in my opinion.
Here is the thing. Don't get attached and hung up on one or even the idea itself. The second you let go of that emotional component you are at a win, both quality and price wise. There are lots of good and bad trucks out there, lots of sellers. Remind yourself that you are the one with the money and choices. You will find more, better, nicer, cleaner, etc... Look and bargain and you will be ahead.
It took me roughly 3 months to find my jeep but it was worth the wait. I picked up one from the original owner in unmodified and clean condition with records dating back to 1998 (a 98) for only 5K. Came with both factory hard and soft tops.

It looks like at one time it started out as a Columbia Edition, judging by the painted fender flares and silver center console. If so, then it's missing its original dark graphite wheels and the small fender flares; also, the main gauge(s) bezel has been changed out and it's missing its "Columbia Edition" decals. Non-original soft top and chrome grille, so *I* wouldn't call it "bone stock"; obviously missing its factory side steps too...
I'm currently searching for a mint condition set of Columbia (or Rocky Mountain) Edition factory painted dark graphite fender flares like those. If "restoring" this to its original limited edition status is your intent now or later, I can tell you that it ain't easy to find that Columbia Edition specific stuff - my research shows that they only made ~3,500 of those...

The Columbia edition also had the Columbia logo on the seats, this one doesn’t have that which is weird.

Then it's more likely the Rocky Mountain Edition, which would explain the seats and black gauge cluster surround; that makes ME feel a bit better about it...
My Jeep has hit 1 deer, I was driving. No frame issue but new hood and grill. Then a deer jumped off an embankment and hit the side. New fender. Good for 11 years. BUT. My grandson took it skiing, at my insistence, and it met a guard rail. New bumper and I purchased new fender flares. Never a frame problem, and no air bag.
Got T boned in my wife’s 99 TJ. Red and Cinnamon. She loved that Jeep. The frame became Really bent.

Were those accidents on the vin report? Did the airbags go off? Just curious! How can i tell if a frame has been bent?
Air bags did not deploy in any of those. Not sure on the vin report. I am the original owner on my 2006 LJ. My wife’s TJ ended up going to Arizona after insurance paid us. It was “fixed” and sold by whoever bought it from the insurance
