A deal on a Rubicon?

For what its worth, I paid 9800 for mine with 126,000 on the clock. 04. We all know what kind of issues I'm dealing with, but frame rot isn't one of them (yet). I know some big flakes have come off inside, but there isn't ANYTHING so far to make me think that I have to be worried. It was in Ohio most of its life and well cared for. For 8K, I'd definitely take a look. Hell, if it is rusty, but has a good tub, take the axles and T-case for your rig, keep the hard top, part the rest. You'd end up on top, most likely. That rust free tub (if it is) is worth 1500 bucks to someone. The axles are probably 2K, the T-case is 2500 I think. Then you still have a transmission, engine, the whole interior, etc.

I will admit that the more I think about it, the more curious I become. I'd much prefer it be something that could be repaired fairly easily and at a reasonable cost, then have it be a rig worthy only of parting out. On a somewhat associated note, I sent an e-mail to a fella who's parting out a rather nicely built TJ. He's asking $450 for the frame. I've asked what kinds of frame mods he's made, if any, as the pics seem to show a long-arm kit on it. Not sure if the stock suspension mounts have been modified, or are gone completely. Could be a donor frame...?

Hmmm....Let me know on that one...My frame is OK, but If I can get a known rust free frame for 450 bucks...I can re-weld the mounts!
 
Ahh I love the black Jeeps, especially a Rubicon. There is one here in Ohio, that is mint. Guy only drives in summer. The rest unfortunately are all but gone. I got 12 years out of my rubi which was a DD. before letting it go due to the rust. Rust never sleeps here, like Neil said.

I don't understand, in that pic, the body looks to be in good shape for an '04. My Rubi was an '06, 33K had to let her go recently. I remember only 7 years from buying new, rust began bubbling up on the fenders,expensive fix. Couple years later began spreading to every panel, seams, hinges, door handle, bumpers just spreading like crazy. I worked hard to keep the frame in good shape with Eastwood stuff, and washes. Frame was solid, the underside actually looked better than the outside. I posted it up for sale at $16K and couldn't get one bite even with the low miles.

I had to get what I could, it was turning into a money pit. Heart said keep it, but brain said nope.

You have got us all dying of curiosity about this potential gem...or turd. We are all hoping it’s the former.

Anyways I hope they send you the pics of the frame. If so do share.

I keep seeing the values getting thrown around here...I should give mine a quick polish and list it for 15K or something. It looks pretty in pictures!

note...If I post it, don't anyone here buy it!

That was the first thought on my mind when I woke up this morning. Garage time has been nonexistent (my last three weekends were for repairing family's daily drivers. Brake jobs, electrical gremlins, etc, etc...). Also, I now have over $10,000 in parts sitting in the garage, the (enclosed) front porch, and the living room. WTF am I thinking looking at another rig that would be a project from day one? And it's not like I have unlimited funds, either. I swear, sometimes I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to creating stress...

In your case, it may pay to just buy one that's already done up! Then you cut down on the garage time :p

Ya know, it's not that I'm actually looking to buy when I go perusing Craigslist. In this case, I was just shocked to find a TJR at that price, and with me being naturally inquisitive about such things, one thing lead to another...
 
What are you thinking @Squatch? I think you should stay home and get some good garage time in. You have a Jeep full of parts, TWO Dana 44's and more projects than you can ever get to. Looking just leads to liking and liking leads to buying. I say this because I love you and want the best for you.

Here ya go...



Frame is in great condition as far as damage goes, or there being any issues with rust. This JEEP does have a long arm kit on it, so things like control arm mounts were removed. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks.
