Should I buy this Ford 8.8 axle?

No locker in price calculation.

Got to look into what locker is included with the tj 44 and what’s need to run the locker in the rubicon version.

No locker? Tires no larger than 35"? What is the point of this again?

The Rubicon 44 locker has its flaws. But is generally safe for 35s. If one needs to swap it out, there is nothing unique about it. A full price ARB116 or 117 is just under $1000 plus the cost of the regear and an air supply. A Detroit is considerably less.

Just stop. I just was arguing against the folks that blurt our random here say and scare folks away. Jjvw blurted the 44 has better ground clearance, and yes I agree but it’s a quarter of an inch difference. mrblain said it’s so much of a difference that he is shaving 8.8, yet is running at least a 1/8” if not a 1/4” diff skid. I don’t get it.
That's not an 8.8 and it isn't an iron center section.

You’d have to add in the cost of the air supply, the electrical components as well. Plus the mounting of the air compressor, the on going maintenance of the air compressor and everything else. I personally would rather compare an open diff 8.8 to a open diff 44.

Let’s compare the 44 to the 8.8 in a new thread with tons of photos, measurements and numbers.

Don’t see your Jeep in your profile.
You run a 35?

Nah. 37 and a chunky diff guard on my iron pumpkin.

TJ Dana 44 vs Explorer 8.8" stock to stock.
8.8" is c-clip TJ 44 is not +1 to 44
Both can be found with Disc brakes tie
8.8" has stronger axle tubes +1 8.8
aftermarket support is about even
Ring gear is bigger on 8.8"
Dana 44 has l slightly more ground clearance

Either one can be made to work and the shortcomings on each one can be addressed with aftermarket products.
Personally, anything over 35" tires I want to go wider before going taller.

How useful is this additional strength provided by the 8.8? Again, what real world problem with the Dana 35 is being addressed by moving to an axle with stronger tubes?

Are we solving the same type of problem by adding inner-c gussets to the TJ Dana 30?

Agreed.
