What lift should I get to run 33s?

Newbie here. Has anyone considered a type of high line flare? There seems to be several types of brands out there. I found a guy on YouTube that has Metal Cloak flares (although very expensive) with 35's on his TJ. Looks awesome. I currently have a 2011 JK and really considering selling it for a TJ/LJ. Enjoying this forum and slowing absorbing all the knowledge here.
Are you by chance talking about KyleSVT? I've watched some of his videos. A lot of is TJ content is hit or miss. He constantly says the MC fenders allow you to retain stock suspension characteristics with 35" tires, but it really only gives you enough to scrape by. You will have significantly reduced up travel, at least with 0 lift. You'll be riding your bump stops.

When I bought my Jeep it had 31" tired and no lift and had no problems .... So I would think a ,2" lift would be sufficient for 33's

31s will rub sheet metal on a stock TJ. 33s require more than 2" of bump stop extension. Meaning that a 2" lift still isn't enough to recover the lost up travel from the bump stop requirements.

Forget the lift. Go for a HighLine

33s, all stock suspension

This kit was $1900 plus $800 for paint.
There a few build threads where guys did a home built HighLine.
Then there is MetalCloak and a few others.

All in after you add up everything for a lift, with all the drive line upgrades...
I'm betting the HighLine is cheaper, plus you keep the reliability of an unmolested Wrangler factory suspension.

No. Unless you are just driving the Autobahn.

1-2 for 31’s
2-3 for 32’s
4 for 33’s
5 for 35’s

The big advantage of a highline is this triangle. Cut out to make the wheelwell huge and clear 33s as you turn lock to lock while articulating. This is critical to a functional HighLine.

Another vote for hiline. AEV kits can still be found but they'll cost you an arm and a leg. Ive seen a few DIY hilines with stock fenders and they end up looking pretty good.

If I do get a TJ I have not sold the wife on any of those flares. I also am not digging cutting the hood for the Spyder's. I like the look of either tho.

Leave it stock.

I vote for a high line and 2” of lift if you want to run 35’s and not have any trouble with your driveline. Very few cut the hood, so it would be pretty unique.

Pretty sure he's into that mall crawler life.
In his defense though, he DID put a link to this forum on one of his videos. So all the people could be led to the promise Land of right answers if you're brave enough to look.

But. How does he not rub the entire f**king world with those. I got my tj from my sis-in-law and it's got 33's and it rubs in at least three places on the front. & It's got 2in lift springs that have been widdled down to 1.25inches of lift because of wear and tear (and probably cheapness, it was on the tj when she got it 5yers ago)

I have asked the same thing in a comment on a video and I don't think he responded. I have always made comments on videos about his gearing which he assured me is still appropriate at 3.73 with 35s. He also said he plans on going to 37s with his next tires, to which I said he should not do with a stock Dana 44, or maybe even a built 44, to which he said I was wrong.

Maybe he needs to spend some time on the forum and learn from people who actually have experience! I am not one of those people, but we are very fortunate to have such knowledgeable members.

Ooohh here we go, I asked on one of his videos about his specs. He just responded.
So it's exactly what you said, assuming he's right. Which, idk why he would lie about it. It seems ridiculous. I would guess that the 4WD lever has never been touched. Especially considering he says there's only 20k miles on that tj.

I have to say it does look cool with the big tires and no lift. But that's what mallcrawlin is all about!

Edit: and with it only having 20k miles he might be able to get away with 37's and have a horrible ride time for 3-5k miles before his axles explode.
