Having seen the Duraflex hood in person, finished and fitted by someone that knows what they're doing: no thanks.
Well all things considered. That price for carbon fiber and the genright name, not bad at all if you’re looking for an aev substitute. The duraflex is not perfect by any means but definitely not bad. From everything i’ve heard from others, they are hit or miss. I had one and the one i had was in good shape with good lines and no warpage.

Care to elaborate? What was wrong with it? If I get highline fenders I am just going to cut the hood but I'm sure others might like to know what you didn't like about it.
Perhaps I was unclear: having seen the Duraflex option, there's no fucking way I would spend $1200 on a GenRight offering. The Duraflex hood is quite nice: it will need fitting, finishing and painting, but I have no major and/or valid complaints against it.
$1200 on a hood is indeed crazy but when an AEV one pops up, It tends to be pretty close to that price so if you’re not wanting a duraflex one, not bad.

I have no problem with dropping $1200 on something if it's actually worth $1200...but I have a BIG problem with giving GenRight $1200 for something that isn't worth $1200, and that's not just because GenRight is on my Naughty List right now.
Care to share your displeasure with Genright? I’ve talked to someone else that didn’t care for the owners attitude on the trail and wouldn’t buy from them. Andy has been nothing but good to deal with for me albeit a couple little things.

Shortest answer is this: they've not been entirely truthful with me on a few technical matters about one or two of their products, so despite the fact that I actually like most of the stuff that they build, I can't trust what they tell me anymore. In my opinion, they're just as prone to giving an inaccurate sales pitch as any other company.
There may well be quality issues with the Duraflex hood; there's actually one portion of it that I really don't care for, but that's just my opinion. The carbon hood being built by a former AEV employee isn't significant to me; I just don't consider that hood to be worth the money for this application.
To me, it's worth nothing because I don't want to drop $1200 on a hood that I don't need. If I wanted a carbon hood it might be worth $1200, but I don't, so it isn't. Your preferences and scale of worth may be different.

I didn't have to mention that I was ill with GenRight; I did so out of a sense of disclosure when stating my opinion. That being the case: would you care to explain why you think my opinion is worth an eye-roll?
I thought it was interesting that you would say such a thing from the get go and not elaborate (#20). I thought it was even more intresting your dislike with them wasnt because they are on your naughty list after seeing the several times you voiced your dislike with GR.
Fair enough. Two things to consider, then.
I don't like cluttering threads unless it's relevant; the only relevance regarding The Naughty List I can draw, here, is that GenRight used to be a BIG fan of the Duraflex hood, but now they say they have quality control problems and poor customer service from Duraflex at the same time that they have a carbon hood of their own. That may be either coincidence or causality - nobody outside of their company can be sure of which - but after having GenRight spin me a ridiculous line regarding their mini-boatsides, I simply no longer have faith in them regarding the veracity of their information.
In general, I don't blanket-boycott companies: even in situations such as my long-standing and vocal hatred of Factor 55, I still compliment them on what they do right...that being exactly one product (security bolt) and on exactly one practice (excellent customer service regarding the aforementioned security bolt). It's much the same with GenRight, except that GenRight - in general - builds good stuff: I have $1400-ish of their fenders going on one of my Jeeps right now, and a $1300 gas tank in another. I'm happy with both, they were worth the money I paid for them, the customer service was stellar, and I'll probably buy more stuff from them in the future. What I don't like is how they've tried to sell me something in the past, and how they've addressed some very simple questions that I asked them about a product (that response being an outright lie, as confirmed by the original designer of the product in question). Thus, they're on my Naughty List, and I approach them with caution...which is how I would approach the carbon hood they're selling, along with every other product they manufacture.
I didn't know they discontinued the glass hood. I have seen a couple in person after they were in the initial stages of fitment right after just being bolted on. Based on that small sampling, I would never install one for a client, and I would never try to fit one up to anything I own even if someone gave me the part. If you want an idea of what is involved, take your steel hood off. Get someone to give you and your hood a ride in the back of a pick up. When you get up to about 40 miles an hour, toss the hood out. Fetch it up and go put it back on and see how it fits.
Definitely a different impression than I have after seeing one finished. Like most fiberglass, it needed skimming and some other attention here and there, but it was made reasonably well and the exterior surface was pretty clean. Question: were the ones you saw purchased from GenRight, or from other retailers?
The finish isn't the problem. That part is easy enough any fiberglass monkey can get that right. The fit was the problem and I was told by the owners they were purchased from Genright.

Well, that has to be the case in one form or another...and that means GenRight's complaint may be well-founded.
I have a durables hood and it’s garbage. Fit and finish were extremely horrible. Absolute garbage.
