Tera flex low range kit

has anybody done the Tera flex low range kit.on their tj..with my 488 gears this seem like it would really be great for rock crawling.dont have to redo drive shafts and that's good just got done wrestling them double cardan joints front and rear with all new spicer joints ..sounds like just drop transfer, split the case replace front half..just not to sure about the quality of tera products,they seem kinda on the cheap side for quality upgrades..i like the idea of high range doesn't change but its a lot of loot ..what say all you jeep folks.

I understand its quality is better than it used to be when its case would crack but it's still a pretty noisy device. Its planetary gears can really scream and you have to make sure not to shift the transmission into higher gears when on easier sections of a trail when you're in 4Lo or the its gear rpms will be excessive.

oh I got ya.never thought of that.so you would have to keep it In first or maybe second gear..wow not so sure that would be good.cause the high side stays stock. so you have to shift transfer to high to keep from tearing it up.well that would suck even with 488s and 37".. tires 1st on the high side I do now but only the easy stuff.. dagone man got me scratching my head now..just sold old ford truck I had and thought well this is where I was going to spend the bounty.but maybe should just get them metal cloak front fenders that I keep dreaming about..man oh man..this jeep stuff really is an addiction and I got it bad.damn..anybody else got running this.thats why I love this site and all you folks.get the answers from the ones that have been there done that.

yea already questioned the quality of tera...but that aint what this post is about.every vendor has pro and cons..what this post is about is the teraflex 231 low range kit .and some advice for fellow jeepers that have used or have any info on the use of this kit answers like jerrys was spot on,any body else experience this kit hands on.iv read on another site about this kit but they are really old post mostly from 2008.some negative some positive.looking to find out if maybe they have improved on this.it has been on the market for quit a while now so it cant be completely junk.and that what sites like this is all about I'm doing my homework before I make any purchase.its around $1300. not wanting to do sumthing stupid with my hard earned loot.not here to bash tera

I'd rather buy a used Rubicon 4:1 tcase than spend $1300 on Tera's 4:1 conversion kit. I haven't met anyone who was completely happy with their Tera 4:1. It may take a while to find a used Rubicon tcase but they're out there and worth the $$$.

dagone man I love this place ive been rolling in the mud since 1984 and now doing the rock creeping thing, when I got my first 4 wheel drive.you never quit learning in this sport.thank you jerry you are the man..hell I have wheeled with lots of rubi's I knew they had lockers and stuff but never knew that the transfer had that ratio..sumbitch still scratching my head.could of had one of those last year for 5 hundred.hummm that's great info..time to hit the donate button.thanks again for getting me on the right path in 2 days wow..i think I know where to get one to..is there a difference in length I have a sye on my 231..off to my favorite wrangler salvage yard

I'll bet he would take $1600 for that transfer case! Nice find though, really nice find!

That's the route I would go. The Rubicon transfer case if I remember correctly was used on numerous diesel trucks. It has a reputation for being nearly indestructible. If I didn't already have a Rubicon, I'd be all over that!

dam just got off the phone with the local tj salvage guy..hes got one for 1200 and 66000 miles..he just wrapped it up and put a big red bow on it for me...santa clause is bringing it to me..is there any thing a need to know before I go get it..is it a direct bolt in I have a 2001 tj

hell yea just got done reading that and a couple more..i wish I had thought about doing this before I rebuilt both front and rear drive shafts(a couple weeks ago) cause I think I would have changed my drive shafts to the 1330 joints. they got to be stronger

Good quality sealed (stronger than most greasable) 1310 joints like the Spicer 5-1310x are fine. Really.

dagone I thought it was to good to be true... went on a journey today to get 241 case and got there and it was a 231.the salvage owner said you want the wrong one for your jeep and I said I know.he didn't have one and I said last night you said you had it .when he ask me what year and all that where the confusion set in..the search is back on.the one on e bay that guy wont budge on that price.$1899.99 and 200 shipping no way.i got a couple months yet but want to get this done by the time the snow is gone.

Sorry to hear about that! I knew it had to be bogus. It's like the saying goes, "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably isn't".

You'll find another, just be patient. They are hard to come by it seems.

@Jerry Bransford I ask on another site what every one thought about 1310 joint greasable or non-greasable.a few years back. had like 47 pages of which is better.i use non grease because no holes and they are solid

I use non-greasable as well. Much less of a hassle!
