Is this a Pedophile?

Anyone who thinks a bumper sticker with the work 'fuck' should be a crime simply due to the use of the word may want to study the principles of free speech underlying the 1971 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Cohen v. California that overturned a conviction for disturbing the peace against Paul Robert Cohen for wearing a jacket displaying "Fuck the Draft" in a Los Angeles courthouse.

As Justice Harlan wrote for the Court, "One man's vulgarity is another's lyric. . . ."
Agree. It's not that word, in and of itself, it is what came after that, used in conjunction with that word. if the sticker would have said "the man next door." You would never have seen this post. I cannot for the life of me think of any rational reason, (other than the driver not knowing it's there) no matter how pissed off you might be at the boy next door to put that on back of your vehicle. One thing comes to "my" mind when I see that phrase. If that is not the meaning of it, then you would think that some form of intelligence would set in to word it differently. Either that or this person is a moron.

How is this bumper sticker any different than somebody’s choice of an avatar they choose to use? Just curious
This board and the rules concerning acceptance of avatar choice is controlled by the owner and his terms and conditions you agreed to when you signed up. That makes it a private entity with its set of rules that are not covered under the normal freedoms and rights. The bumper sticker is in the public and is protected by our freedoms and rights. Two entirely different scenarios.

And therein lies the beauty and joy of living in a free country with rights and protections. It is not up to you to set the rules for what is and isn't a rational reason for doing something. Thankfully it is not up to me either.

In another country with different rules, just think, we would not even be allowed to discuss this publicly much less post up a picture of it.

Really?

A few posts up a member told you there is a law against such bumper stickers?

Yes, really.

The First Amendment restricts governmental action impacting freedom of expression. Internet forums are privately owned. Thus, a criminal statute passed by a state legislature that would outlaw use of the word 'fuck' on a bumper sticker would be facially unconstitutional. A private enterprise that prohibits profanity on a forum that it operates is not governmental action. There is a fundamental distinction.

while that is true, one persons constitutional right does not supersede the rights of others, so if whatever you are expressing violates the rights of others you are not protected. So you are not entirely free to express whatever you want.

With that in mind I have said on many occasions that I may not agree with what someone may say (even if I find it repulsive) but I support their right to say it.

If I thought there was a snowball's chance in hell of a cop pulling anyone over for that, I'd get them printed up and put on all of my vehicles just so I could tell any cop that pulled me over for it to fuck right off. There is not one single aspect of that sticker and it's public display that is unlawful.

I've seen cops pull people over for much less, although the official reason tends to be that someone didn't put their blinker on soon enough or something. Still, I meant more that if they got pulled over for something else, I'm sure the cop would bring it up.

Although frequently and incorrectly attributed to Voltaire, it was Evelyn Beatrice Hall who wrote,

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

S. Tallentyre, The Friends of Voltaire , 1906, pp. 198-199.

I just don’t get it haha. Everybody was in an uproar about a “blackface” avatar, but this bumper sticker may be acceptable?
So again...I have to ask why did the black face avatar bother you so much, but this fucked up bumper sticker gets a pass? Makes no sense.

Without any context, we really have no fucking idea what this bumper sticker is about. I mean, there's a whole lotta guesswork about whether the "boy" is underage and assumptions that the driver of this car is not also underage and while all the speculation in this thread about that is pretty amusing, the only "offensive" thing that anyone can truly make heads or tail of is the word "fuck".

Now if this was a NAMBLA bumper sticker or something that said "I like fucking little boys", then you would see plenty of outrage.

I think it's safe to say that folks here don't like racism, nor do they like pedophilia, but without the context for this bumper sticker, there's just no reason to try to believe this proves otherwise.

The bumper sticker says enough to make it vile just like a black face picture.
