400,000 people have joined a Facebook event pledging to raid Area 51

Personally, I'm not worried; security is good, patrols are regular and the personnel are competent. I mean, why else would anyone live in a gated community? Sure, it's hard to call out for pizza, but I don't have to worry about anyone crashing my pool parties...and if the Facebook lemmings somehow do manage to overrun the neighborhood, at least we don't have to drive very far to get to the airport.

I'm seriously interested in what this uprising would actually look like if this were to happen. Would the military use deadly force like their signs threaten to?
 
This has the potential to be the biggest and best Darwin Award in history.

The process of natural selection and eliminating ones self from the gene pool is certainly at center stage.

No, but they'd more than likely use shit tons of tear gas, rubber bullets, and other non-lethal (well, as non-lethal as you can get at least) deterrents.

There is an interesting podcast series about a second American Civil War and the end of the US. One of the segments talks about other falling countries in recent history where the civilian population takes on their law enforcement and military.

I think if the people really wanted in, then we would get in. But if we did make our way in, it would be in the midst of other greater trouble resulting from the same distrust that is fueling this Facebook group in the first place. It isn't terribly far fetched, in my mind.

You’re right, I believe it’s possible to get in, especially in larger numbers. However, I think the majority of people are simply pretending to participate in this. I also think that given a potential life or death choice, most of these people (myself included) have a lot to live for, especially if it’s all in the name of seeing aliens :ROFLMAO:

But, I do keep waiting for the day where people in large enough numbers attempt to overthrow the government. That would be a really turning point in history. Truthfully, given the way things are going, it doesn’t seem that far fetched.

The part of me that is still 14 years old would absolutely pretend to participate in this. Fortunately for me and the country, mother wouldn't allow me to travel to Nevada to storm the fence.

It depends on the assets actually on site, any nukes, yes, certain other agents, WMD's, yes and if the fuckbook babies dont think so, they may get a serious surprise. While we may not use Biological or chemical agents in warfare, we do have it for testing detection methods and research. They will not allow those kinds of elements to get out to the general public and mob mentality would not be good nor safe in dealing with this. People are stupid, liberals are more so. I get access to some of the public reports on threats, most times the agencies will remove any assets if there is a perceived threat, especially if there will be large scale event.

I sure as fuck dont want some cry baby running around with ebola or mustard gas, or have some terrorist gaining access to anything they should not have. I sure hope to god they would use lethal force over letting national assets get out into the public.

Area 51 is an are where the use of deadly force is justified; at least it used to be. Very few people would be willing to tempt fate with their lives. If there were ever highly classified info./equipt./technology/alien craft, etc. staged there I doubt they are there now.

I held a nuclear security clearance for 33+ years. The use of deadly force was justified in repelling any attempt to breach the security envelope. Anyone who has been stationed or worked around fissile materials knows the drill. The security forces guarding these areas do not play games.
