I have a 2000 Sahara that I love to drive. Problem is I’m 51 years old ( I know that’s not old for a lot of you ) but I have arthritis in my back and the interior and the seats just aren’t comfortable for riding for a long time. I know a lot of y’all will think just suck it up and drive😄. But if anyone has any suggestions or have done anything to help their Jeep be more comfortable. By the way I just had 4 Rancho shocks installed.

I have added 5/8 inch stack of washers under the rear mounts of my drivers seat. I like my seat back more upright and my seat bottom flat. Added the Bartact seat covers and seat heaters. The seat covers are nice and have made the seats more comfortable. I am not finished wiring up the heaters yet. I have about 400 dollars into them so you may want to consider that.

I saw a post on here where a guy installed WJ seats. they looked comfortable and bolted onto the frames without any issues.

Hundreds of seats out there for jeeps. Might hit some of the speed shops and try a few, no direct experience ( hopefully someone will chime in) but one of the suspension seats might fit the bill ( reducing shock to you damaged bits), or perhaps an airhawk under a seat cover ( where you can vary pressure and location of the air hawk)

For now I put a $60 sheepskin seat cover down. Its comfy! My main aim is to eventually obtain leather seats tho.

I have been driving jeeps for twenty something years now. Sometimes as my primary daily driver, usually not. I was never made aware that the words, Comfort, Performance, Economical or Convenience were ever associated in any way what so ever with a Jeep.

Words such as Capable, Cool, Rugged and Spartan are more Jeep related.

Want comfort? Buy a Town Car.

Stock seats break my ass. I looked for options for a while and finally settled on seats from a Hyundai Tiburon. They are very comfortable, supportive and have adjustable height and lumbar support. It was easy to make some quick brackets for the Jeeps seat tracks. There are some other good aftermarket seats but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. My total cost was around $175.
Plus they look really good.

If you have C rates tires, set your air pressure to 26 psi. It will soften the ride.

I installed seat heaters in mine. I also have some back arthritis in my back and the heat feels good on it. I will say though that with the soft top the heated seats don’t get used in the jeep during the summer as much as they do in our car. We blast the a/c in the car with the heated seats on and it great.

26 psi in the tires, Rancho 5000 shocks, CalTrends seat covers, and a stereo with a little rock n roll does it for me. I'll be 54 in a few weeks and have had multiple lower back issues in the past.

I am 72 and it is my first jeep.2000 tj.Right away the seats seemed good but thought I would give it some miles.I did notice right away lowering pressures from 30 to 26 helped a lot.

I have a '99. And a bad back. I switched to the newer more modern 03-06 seats and they are much more comfortable for me. Better lumbar support. $400 for a newish set from a junkyard here in CA. PRobably cheaper anywhere else. Not as cheap as the Tiburon route. But the 03-06 seats (with the brackets) are a direct bolt in on a 97-02. So no need to have a bracket made. Forgive me if that's not the case with the Tiburons.

I bought those hard plastic seat spacers from rough contry I think it was. I was happy to find out after installing them, I don't receive as much feed back from the road with them which was unexpected. They kinda act like vibration absorbers. They were very inexpensive too.

Good shocks, correct alignment, proper inflation of tires all really help.

I’ve switched around a million times with seats but am currently leaning towards the tiburon seats.

If sound is an issue a good soft top (sailcloth or tweel) if you want soft and sound deaden the tub and inside of hard top.

If you really want to nitpick make sure all rubber bushings on control arms, motor mounts, and sway bars are in awesome shape.

Someone on here used rubber ones. And it really gave him a soft ride. But not sure how safe those are as the only link between your seat and the rest of the Jeep(?).

Not saying they are safe but I'd trade a lil comfort and space under my seats for a little security. Something else to note, I didn't use the bolts that came with the kit. Used higher grade bolts and washers.

I added height via 1 1/8 inch rubber blocks under my seat. It feels fine but my ‘02 Tj’s oem seats lack a headrest which I really want. Hoping that I can ‘test’ sit in a few Tj’s at the Jeep Jam in NC in a few weeks. What was your last comfortable vehicle seat and see if you can do a seat swap. What’s a few more holes in a Jeep tub?

When and where is the Jeep Jam?

I'm a bit older than the OP and have severe sciatic problems. To the point of not being able to stand up on a day to day basis, so I understand your pain. Thing is, my old 83 CJ-7 had the most comfortable seat I had ever sat in. Ever. But the thought of climbing into one ever again seemed impossible. Then after a doctor visit last fall I was gauking at a TJ in the parking lot. The kid (30's) asked if I wanted a ride, looked at my cane, and said 'parking lot. Nothing hard.' He showed me to slide onto the seat like a bar stool. I was always the throw the leg up and in and jump up kind of guy. Well the seat was almost as good as I remember and the ride was MUCH better. So find a car/truck/minivan seat you like. Any seat. Odds are it can be made to fit in a TJ. Just find a seat and do it. Heat helps some, if that is you then add it. Or just get some memory foam and add some cushioning to what you have. These are the best-est most adaptable-est vehicles short of a panel van.
