Anyone install hood vents?

I’m in the middle of installing hood vents now. Had a nasty dent and this was the cheapest fix.

Reduce heat, who would have thought :) I did just because I like the looks

Now to reduce the heat I installed a hot water shower to help lower the temp's from the engine by running the hot water through a heat exchanger :)

I’m unable to see pics in your attachments
- Please resend pic of the heat exchanger,
And it’s location , unless you have a copyright on it
Hahaha
Great idea , hats off 👍🏿

I got a great deal on the poison spyder louvers from a local add. I have only driven it one day but after parking I could see the heat radiating out of the vents when I got to work. That is what I wanted.

A plus side. I drive me jeep daily. I was pleasantly surprised that the steering is more stable! I didn't get a mile down the road before realizing how stable the front end is now.

What improved the steering?

I am only assuming here. Driving down the road the engine bay was closed off. I am assuming this created some lift affecting the weight transfer to the rear of the jeep when driving at 40 mph and faster. Now the air flows more freely through the engine bay. The weight transfer or lift is not present anymore. The front end is more stable. the wind sheer of a cross wind has much less affect. I do have a 4 cylinder so not sure if the weight difference of that is why I am noticing dramatic improvement.

Interesting theory, I wasn’t sure if you attributed it to the vents or if there was something else I missed.

Because I have a V-8 in my TJ and had high underhood temperatures I installed GenRight hood vents on my TJ.

I just bought a fiberglass hood in the AEV style with the vent near the radiator.

I also have one of the Poison Spyder hood vent panels that I am going to install on my daughters TJ.

The poison spyder hood will look good, those hood vents look horrible.

The only value to adding vents I can come up with is the very long term preservation of the plastic and rubber parts in the engine bay. But I'm referring to accumulated deterioration that won't matter for many years in the future.

I can see that. All of the plastic loom conduit under my hood is brittle to the point that if I manipulate it at all, it breaks apart, and I end up running to the parts store for more. The PVC elbow on my valve cover recently came apart just from a little tension on the hose that connects it to the intake tube.

My 2000 Silverado on the other hand, 1 year newer and 20k more miles on it, does not have this issue.

I bought a beautiful set of those Cherokee louvers in silver, I just can't get myself to cut up my hood.
I had the same trepidation but they really look nice and gives your TJ a factory clean unique look. Just take good measurements, use blue painters tape, be patient and it's really not that hard. I did mine in about 5 hours going slow.
