Problem with ARB air locker

If i turn my compressor on it comes on for a couple seconds and then when i turn my locker on mabee another second or two.Now it will sit like that and not come on for as long as i sat there and waited.The problem is the second i roll forward with the locker engaged is comes on every 5 seconds or so.I believe the locker is staying engaged but the compressor should not come on that often as we all know.I have soap checked everything and there is no air coming out the breather tube .Does this sound like the pneumatic seals are no good?

Yes it sounds like the seals inside the diff are what were leaking.

Depending upon how old the ARB locker is (>8 years) .... the shifting air seals were prone to premature leaking and the seal and seal housing were redesigned to solve this problem.

The installation guide says 2003 RD100.So do you think i need a whole new seal housing or just the o rings?

Ok i talked to the Arb tech guy and because i have no air coming from the breather hose he says highly unlikely its the seals.Say more likely leaking at the hose or connection so i will investigate further .

Sorry for the delayed response, but we are moving into a new used house and was doing some electrical wiring.
I agree...... IF no air pressure coming from the differential housing breather; then there is no leak in the seals.

So i looked at it again today and yesterday i was looking at the wrong breather tube.There is air coming out the breather tube. Back to the shop.What pisses me off is the locker was already pulled twice once to regear it and two days later after they put the wrong size axle seals in.Now the shop say 4-500 bucks to pull it again and put new seals in.Some guy said he had to re seal 3 times in 5 years.Wishing i had a Detroit locker like the rear.Oh well.

The second time they got me right in and re did the axle seals for free as he said the mechanic should have checked the size as i did tell him there were 30 spline because that is what i was told by the past owner but no they were 27 .Its a week for the o rings to get here but i will update when shop does the inspect.

Remember.... there was a redesign and IF you have the older style... I am not sure the older locker/carriers are compatible to the newer designed seal and housing.
I went thru this same problem about 15 years ago and it was replaced under warranty...

The Dana 30 arb underwent a redesign. The rd30 was a two piece design and the bolts holding it together would shear when the housing flexed. The rd100 is the new version

I didn't know the numbers of the old and new versions; might need to contact ARB to find out if they are compatible to swap between carriers.

On the recent litebrite video they were at ARB US and they discussed that very thing. Said if they fail it was likely installer error.

He doesnt need to because he already has the RD100. So all is right in the world there!

Wish I didn't have my garage full right now or I'd offer for you to come over and I'd fix it for you. I've done a ton of setups for other club members who had me do their axles for them. Seems to me the shop should be eating some of the costs if this is a newer install.
