What gears and why?

Are the 5.38 recommended mainly for highway driving? This is not my daily driver, mainly stays in the desert, low speeds on pole roads and stuff.

What is best for the highway is also going to be very good for off-road because the optimal gear ratio for the highway is usually lower than many expect it to be.

Since lower vs. higher ratios confuse some, 5.38 is a lower ratio than 3.73 is.

Not yet, I was told I need to upgrade for 35's

Gears first, that’s the expensive part. The steering can come a little later and it is cheap compared to a regear.
