First timer here! First time—TJ 1997 addicted! All right, hopefully I can get a reliable answer for my simple questions! I have no experience at all with MODS and I’m not touching my TJ except for the simple things like lights, tires, winch, etc...! Now I need to upgrade my rear stock Dana 35 to a super dana 35 since I want to have a locker. I’ve read so many things about it, but because I’m a dumb novice I got so confused that I just stopped reading and decided to ask someone who has the experience on this matter!! 1) If I buy the Revolution Dana 35 super kit, which includes the Detroit locker, do I need to change the Ring Gear and Pinion as well? Or will it be good with the Ring and pinion I have on my stock since I’m having the locker replace my carrier??? 2) is it possible to have the OX locker with the super Dana 35 instead of Detroit since I wish to lock and unlock my axle as needed??? 3) in case I want to use a lunchbox locker on my Dana 30 front axle do I need to upgrade the front axle to 30 spline too or I will be good with my stock 27 spline? For my last question: I have to say I’m not a rock crawler! I just need a semi-strong Jeep to drive safely on trails and try not to get stuck!! I’ll appreciate any advice and hopefully I get some answers!! Thanks a lot to everyone out there!!

Hey, I also live in Hanford

27 spline shafts up front are fine. If you install 35's and a front locker you can upgrade the front with 27 spline 4340 alloy shafts.

Installing the rear locker only involves shimming it left/right until the backlash (slop) between the ring & pinion gears is correct. Yes you will reinstall your same ring gear onto the locker, and no gear setup is required other than the easy backlash setup.

If you want a selectable locker instead of the Detroit my recommendation would be an Eaton E-Locker or ARB Air Locker. I'm no fan of the Ox though some run and like them.

But unless you have to drive on snow/ice covered trails or highways I wouldn't be wary of the less costly Detroit Locker which is a butt-simple highly dependable and "point and shoot" automatic locker. I ran a Detroit Locker on my previous daily-driver TJ for 7-8 years (until the Jeep was stolen) and loved it. Once you spend a day or two driving it where it teaches you how it likes to be driven, it's a very well behaved locker. It's actually the best behaved automatic locker there is.

Hi Jerry. Man thank you very much spending ur time to answer my question I really appreciated that! So based on what you said I could just buy the shaft kit w/o the locker and buy the E-locker, witch I think better than the ARB , separated right?? I have 31s tires that I just put in with Procomp 2 inches lift. I’m not going over that for long ! But definitely I’ll have my rear ended Dana 35 upgraded to 30 spline with a locker and also I’ll need something in my Dana 30 front. I just don’t wanna spend o lot of money in the front so I’m thinking about to get any lunchbox locker! Would you suggest me any good automatic locker for my front stock Dana 30 27 spline diff. ??

Talk with Ricky @Garza at www.4lowparts.com who is a long-term dealer for Revolution Gear, he can provide the Super 35 and Eaton E-Locker combined in a single kit. He's a good guy as well as a member of this forum, he might have a discount available to you as a member. https://www.4lowparts.com/shop/super-35-rear-axle-kit-eaton-e-locker-Dana 35-30spl/

For your front lunchbox locker I'd either go with an Aussie locker or the No-Slip made by Powertrax. The Aussie clicks/ratchets faintly when making slow-speed turns when you're in 2wd, the No-Slip is the same kind of lunchbox locker but it is virtually silent. I had a No-Slip up front in my previous TJ and I couldn't tell it was there when I was in 2wd on the street. Other than the faint clicking the Aussie and other lunchbox lockers do during turns, there's no operational differences between them and the No-Slip other than the No-Slip doesn't click. Oh the No-Slip is about $80 more than the Aussie. Only pay the additional $80 if its silence is important. :)

:)

Sorry to bring up an older thread, but Jerry 33’s busted an axle on our Dana 35 backing out of a parking space a few years back and a local shop put in Revolution Chromoly (should have been on this forum, I would have known to go Super35 then) "Revolution Gear Dana 35 Rear 27Spl Axle kit 93-06 × 1 "

I’m curious if you’ve seen those rear axles handle 35” BFGs? I’m thinking 6-12 month timeframe, and I’ll work on getting the Super 35 and re gear the whole setup. Tires are getting pretty thin and getting close to needing replacement and would like to space getting the Super 35 out some so my wife doesn’t do the usual “you bought that, I’m getting a new Louise Vuillton purse” on me. I'm planning on getting an SYE and Re Gear as well, so trying to space it out, would rather not get another set of 33's and go 40k plus before moving to 35's.

I most likely won’t have time to hit anything Really rough until we get passed this school year (kids in sports keep me busy)

Of course with the Aussie it is always fun when non-jeep people hear you pull into a parking space and rush up to give advice about replacing your wheel bearings/U-joints/axles.

For 35's definitely go for the 30 spline Super 35 kit. I would not run any 27 spline shafts, alloy or 1541H, in the rear with 35" tires.

This answer is a real party crasher!! HA. Was hoping to skate these axles for 6 months and get a full S35 and Re-Gear for myself for Christmas and avoid the spending questions from my wife, ha.

Thanks, good info.

You would likely be fine on the street with 1541H 27 spline shafts but I wouldn't run those 35's offroad until the 30 spline shafts are installed.

Much appreciated. If my son had it, I would definitely not (not saying I want to pop a shaft while driving either, ha). We broke OEM axle on street at 5mph with 33's, so I know this is a real concern. It's only money....
