Blown crossover steering kit joints

Looking at a used Tj with around 80k miles and the owner just told me that the crossover steering kit joints are blown.

Is this a big issue or can it be easily fixed with a new crossover steering joint kit, some tools, and a little sweat.

Any advice is welcome, just trying to learn here.

I don't personally have any experience with the crossover steering thing, but the general consensus on this forum seems to be that they are pointless and the factory steering setup is the way to go. If the thing is in otherwise good shape (little rust on the frame, good mechanical condition) replacing the steering with a factory setup isn't too tall of an order.

A perfect time to put a ZJ 1 ton steering upgrade in. Your lack of bumpsteer will thank you. Confirm you still have the stock pitman arm on the steering box. Check the trackbar bushings too.

I installed the ZJ stuff according to the part #s in Chris's how-to. Set me back about $200 and only took a few hours to install. Bump steer is no more.

First and foremost, crossover steering has no place whatsoever on a stock width TJ axle, plain and simple. By having crossover steering there as oppose to the factory Haltenberger setup, all you're doing is creating a bigger problem for yourself.

That being said, I assume it uses heim joints, and if they are indeed bad, all you need to do is replace them with new ones.

However, I would throw that crossover steering kit in the garbage, where it belongs.

I'd go to either a ZJ tie rod conversion or a Currie Currectlync.
