What 31" tire would you recommend?

I just installed 1" H&R springs, .75 spacer and new Rancho 5000x shocks. I am shopping for new shoes. The jeep is my sons, and it will be driven to and from high school / work. what 31/10.5/15 tire would you recommend. No real wheeling here in the city, looking of best looking / performing for the $.

I would go with either the BFG KO2, Falken Wild Peak AT3 or the General Grabber A/TX. All are great tires with a similar tread design and very good road manners. All are perfect for a daily driver with some off-road time.

That's what you think! He'll find somewhere or something to crawl over trust me. We had to go drag my buddy's son out of a flood control ditch last week. He'd blown the drive shaft and yoke up trying to "wheelie" up the 30 degree concrete embankment, then said it just went bang and didn't know what happened. The trail of oil gave him away! Gotta love them kids!

+2 on the KO2's. Its what I run with mostly city driving. We run the 31/10.5/15 on a stock (non-lifted) Jeep. Keep them rotated and they will serve you well. With the Rancho shocks and this tire we run 30 psi and they are sweet. Very smooth on the city roads.

KO2 will look great, that's it. It will be the worst performing street tire you could pick when compared to any mild AT or plain old all season tire. If you aren't wheeling it is expensive, heavy and offers no advantage on the street.

For your needs, you may want to take a look at the Kelly Edge AT. I'm on my second set on my truck and run them on the TJ as well. Great street manners, capable offroad and a 50k warranty at a reasonable price point. And Goodyear typically runs a $140 - $160 rebate on a set of 4.

Your kids Jeep, shop for price, mileage warranty if you can find one. Any AT will look good in the school parking lot. Look for the best buy.

KO2s are one of the few tires that are 3 peak mountain snowflake rated so these do offer some advantage on the street for some of us.
Additionally, my 285/70R17s are lighter according to the specs compared to Falken Wildpeak AT3 and Toyo Open Country AT3 (which are also 3 peak mountain rated)

I run Ko2's(LT245/65/17, 30") on my daily. they are heavy tires for sure but I did not get stuck at all in the snow that we get here in the mitten. Once I wear this set out I will be stepping up to a 31" 245/70/17 and going with Kumho Road venture a/t's in a non LT tire I dont need the heavy duty LT tire on my 2015 Patriot lol.

I love my BFGs. They are expensive, but they seem to hold up well. I've bought other brands that were even more expensive *cough* Duratracs *cough* that didn't last as long and I'm religious about alignment and rotating. My last XJ I had Cooper AT3's and while they were a tad more highway friendly, the wet traction really suffered after they were under 50% tread. Even when my BFG A/T's had very little tread they still weren't squirrely in the wet.

Snow in Houston. Haha. Once in the last 6 years. Was gone by lunch.

However, it does rain and flood here a lot. Plus the occasional Hurricane event (Harvey).

Our trails are muddy and sticky. Some of that stuff dries like concrete

What you should be prepared for is that no matter what you tell your kid, he is going to take it off road. I gave mine a 2014 JK which he proceeded to take mudding on day 1. Buy tires that will hopefully help him get it out of whatever he manages to get into.

Here are my Falken Wildpeak AT3s. 32x11.50x15 I do like them much better than the BFGs I replaced them with. Falkens were 165/ea., much cheaper. Oh, and they're 3 peak mountain label too, 3PMSF rated.
