I wonder what WF and JF were like before they got bought out by Vertical Scope.

You know, when they were still run by just some individual like myself.

When I joined JF 10 years ago, it seemed like a good forum with lots of good tech, kind of like this forum. Then the corporate mongers got a hold of it and it all went down hill from there. In a way I'm kind of thankful for that, because as a result, we were forced to create our own local forum. Finding your forum has given me new hope.

I never joined any of the other forums. I looked at the WF but I couldn't find enough good information. I didn't spend much time there because I'm a researcher and in research you read abstracts and quickly dismiss what is not applicable. It was a relief to find this one. It is specific to my needs as a TJ owner and there are a number of intelligent and experienced members. I also appreciate the patience and repetition they exercise toward a newbie like myself...Never sell out!

Thanks JMT still figuring out what I have. For the most part I'm pretty pleased with it, I even agree with that other old fart that there might be better front bumpers out there.

I'll make one final comment... had you mentioned already owned those bumpers, I would have never said a word. I thought you had seen the bumpers somewhere and wanted to know where to buy them. As in I wouldn't walk into someone's living room and tell them I'd never own their couch. I might say that in the store though.

I skim JF just about every day, and actually seek out threads and posts by some of the long standing members. There is a lot of good tech there, and even if it does not apply to me or my Jeep directly I like to think that I learn a little something each visit. I think a lot of people get butt hurt because the members there ask for proof via pics, measurements or hard data as to why something works, not just because it is claimed (especially if it's off the wall) by the poster. I've pretty much stopped going to WF.

WF = Hey guyz what Fuel rim is the coolest?!
JF = How do I set up an external trans filter?

I think @Chris has set up a refreshing site that is kind of in between WF and JF, with an excellent How-To section gathered from the best of the best sites across on the web.

I agree with @mrblaine that a tech sub forum would be great. Honestly, I wouldn't have much to contribute to that sub-forum but for the most part that's what I look for and clicking on "New Posts" button makes you try to sort through A LOT of posts, especially with the recent edition of the regional sub forums.

I like this forum for its simplicity, and the accurate explanation of how and why things work(most times) and also the mostly civil discussions about, well, most things.
I do find it amusing that there's a general consensus on what your TJ should be upgraded with/ look like. Mine is too high with too big a tires and I haven't been off road with it, so I'd land squarely in the poser section. Haha.

Ugh, I laugh every time I see that thing.

But for the record, I have nothing against mall crawlers. By all means I'm a poser too. I've got a 4" lift and 33" tires on my TJ, when all I really do with it is overloading type stuff. Nothing that I need this extreme of a lift and tires for.
