Currie Rocker Mounting Questions

I picked up a set of Currie Rockers from a fellow forum member. Other than some scratches (which a little sanding and spray paint will fix) they are in great condition. They did not come with hardware or installation instructions. For the most part Rockers are installed the same way. I have searched the web but cannot find any PDF of the exact install for the Currie Rock sliders. The side attachment points should be pretty obvious but the under side bolt are confusing me a bit. I have a few questions before starting the install.

1) Does anyone have the pdf of the install directions?
2) I'm assuming there are going to be some that need nutserts.
3) Which type of bolts should I use since the holes are not recessed (except 2 on the underside).
4)Look at the bottom pictures, (I know they are not pushed in all the way but this allows us to see where the bolt holes line up. They line up with the big drain holes and recesses in the tub. Do I drill through these holes and put a bolt and washer in these or a nutsert?

I am wanting to get everything setup prior to starting so I don't make mistakes nor have to drive to the hardware store a dozen times as I figure it out.

If you have the Currie Rockers installed on your jeep then you might be able to take a few pics and answer all my questions real quick. I'm sure many of you know the answers to these questions even without having these rockers. Thank you in advance for your replies.

They were installed with 1/4-20 Phillips drive truss head machine screws and nutserts. The recessed used the same since they are just at a different height due to the way the torque box changes height.

I'd drill them out and use 5/16-18 fasteners and nutserts if I was doing it.

@mrblaine Thank you for the quick response. I'm assuming where the backing plate inside the side of the tub does not get nutserts, just the holes under the fender flairs.

Also, just for clarification, I need to drill through the large drain plug holes and into the cab portion of the tub to install the nutsert? If I am going all the way into the tub from the bottom, can I just use a nut on the inside? Or do I move the rocker slightly forward or behind the large holes to get the nutsert in the square tubing of the tub (I may have it slightly off in location since I have not taken the fender flairs off yet)? I hope I am making sense with that.

I don't recall anything but nutserts in blind holes that you could not get a nut on the other side. If they are hitting in a hole, that seems to be improper location of the slider.

Okay got it. I will see if I am off a bit on lining it up. Probably just off a bit.

You're getting great guidance from Blaine but perhaps if you called Currie/Rockjock Monday morning maybe they can dig up a set of the actual instructions and email them to you.

They are rock rails, they bolt to the tub. Where you can through bolt, you use nuts, where you can't, you use nutserts. This isn't hard and it really doesn't need instructions. Just push them up in place, drill through all the holes with them where they go, drop them, any place you can't see how to put a nut on, enlarge the perfectly located hole and install the nutsert that works with the fastener of choice.

Two more questions.

1) There was some double stick tape or something like that on the inside that would go against the tub. I have not seen this for other rockers but is this something that was used originally with the Currie sliders? Was it to avoid scratches to the tub or was it just added by a previous owner?

2) What torque should I tighten the bolts down to? My nutsert tool arrives in a couple days and I want to have everything ready to go.

The tape wasn't from Currie.

@mrblaine Thank you for the quick response.

So obviously the tape was necessary (which is what I thought). Do you know approximately how tight I should torque the bolts to. I am not sure how tight to make them since they are going into nutserts.

@mrblaine Wow 80 ft lbs?!? I would have never guessed that 1/4" bolts could handle that type of torque nor that nutserts can handle that torque without spinning. By any chance did you mean 80 inch/lbs? Don't mean to question you since you are a Jeep guru but from everything I looked up on torque that seems very high for that size bolt.

I just took a guess at the size since you never specified as to what you decided to use. The nutserts that go in the frame for the belly skid are good at 80 ft lbs., so I picked those.

Wanna try again?

Didn’t mean to offend. I am on here to gain knowledge. I definitely don’t want to come off as knowing everything. With that said I am either going with 1/4 or 5/16 like you suggested earlier.

5/16 is good at about 15 ft lbs or 180 inch pounds. I will let you know that we have never once torqued a rock rail fastener. We just smack them in with an impact and call it good.
