What did you do to your TJ today?

Took the mismatched half doors off for no doors with my DiTech mirror brackets. I like having the hard top but its time for me to get going on the hoist. Its top off season in FL!

Tearing into the new-to-me M8000 winch. Overall, not bad. The main problem is about a 95% failure of the powder coating on the cast aluminum parts - the repaint won't be to concourse standards for sure, but will be fine. There's a missing thrust washer on the armature shaft, the clutch handle o-ring is toast (and Goddess only knows what size it is), but over-all its in great shape. I know the gearbox is full of congealed grease that will need to be cleaned out, but that's no biggie. Motor brushes are 3/4" in length - well in spec. Armature looks very good. But I'm glad I'm in no hurry for this thing as its going to take me a bit of time to work through it.

Bumper is off, sanded, and primed and the new tow hooks are primed as well. Naturally the bottom bumper bolts needed some strong coercion before they decided to give it up. Bernzomatic and 18" breaker bar to the rescue.

Cleaned up the bolt holes with some rust remover jelly and they will be getting a liberal dose of anti-seize when the time comes.

The new Bed Rug carpet kit arrived this morning; I had previously removed the old carpeting, vacuumed and wiped down the flooring.
Installed and adjusted the new carpet kit; the entire installation process took about 2 hours.
Smells so much better and looks better without the cigarette burns.

I already have the parts. I'm doing front and rear. I had them on the list to do after the lift and haven't gotten to it.

So it was probably a combination of rust and stress from the lift. Luckily the parts came fast. I thought of making my own. But work's too busy.

Today I took out the rear seat and passenger seat and pulled out a lot of the carpet. Found some surface rust in the passenger footwell after noticing the carpet was wet after a bunch of rain in Virginia. Thankfully it's not bad and I can use a wire wheel to get it up and treat it. I need to find the source of the leak and my first suspect is a blocked cowl. I'll remove that this weekend and try to clear any blockages.

I'll be purchasing some Monstaliner to do the entire tub. I've got the Forest Green Pearl paint, so I'm trying to decide between contrasting that by doing the tub in Jeep Spice or closely matching it by using Run Forest Run or Jungle Love. Feels pretty cool to just drive around with only the driver's seat installed. I can haul a bunch of stuff now.

Received the replacement inner shifter boot yesterday; so I decided to replace it this morning while it was still cool. Removed the shifter knob which required the removal of the shifter gear identification medallion to access the 15mm nut holding the shifter knob in place. Removed the outer shift boot and removed the one bolt beneath the outer shifter boot which allows the center console to move side to side. Removed the (4) 7mm screws to remove the inner shifter boot. Found the boot torn in half; far worse than I originally thought. You can see the Gorilla tape I applied previously to hold the boot together. Also found the (4) 10 mm shifter bolts holding the shifter to the transmission were ALL very loose. Installed inner shifter boot and reassembled in reverse order. Now that the shifter bolts are tight; the shifting is a lot tighter and more precise.

Not sure. It was on there when I bought it, it is heavy duty stuff for sure. PO just sprayed it on the Jeep, needs to be taken off wheeled down and repainted. I love the bumper
It's definitely Body Armor. I almost bought that one with the extra hoop. My old 05
Willys.

Adjusted my drag link to center up my steering wheel & discovered this on the passenger side. (Thank you to Jerry Bransford for a great post on How to align your Jeep Wrangler TJ.)

Looks like I get to learn how to install axle seals. Any tips or tricks on how to make that job smoother would be appreciated.
Before you get goin, make certain the diff breather is clear and not clogged up !!

Finally got the rebuilt / “matched” stock injectors to replace the original ones. The hardest thing was cleaning the old 226k mile crud in the bores and pulling the injectors out. Went with stock Deka ones for simplicity.

It seems to sound better and pull better. We shall see.

Edit: Yes, that is the stock motor from the factory in the jeep. 226k miles(give or take a few from the PO not adding the right speedometer gear, mileage may be less)
