What did you do to your TJ today?

. I went to sleep thinking of other things and what I might have missed.

You know , we all help each other a ton on here. A lot of problems really do get solved. Good job.
Yeah, I gotta say if didn’t have the forum, I’d have torn all my hair out by now.

And with as little as I have, I can’t afford to pull any of it out!

I received two projects in yesterday. Hope to tackle this weekend. New Bestop softop to replace the hard top and my PSC "budget" assist kit.

replaced a totally shot transmission mount and add the missing rear sway bar.

So... now that it's cooled off I'm back to working on the Jeep. All 4 hubs and some ball joints last month.... now it's time to replace the carpet and install sound deadening mats.

Carpet has arrived from Amazon (Auto Custom Carpets) and the Dynamat is coming tomorrow hopefully. I'm also going to disassemble the seat mounts and paint the metal and replace the bushings.

Pictures when you’re finished!

Got tired of putting up with the incessant squeaking dash. All the screws that attach the panels are present and they're nice and snug, but the dash squeaks constantly. I tried lubricating all points of contact, and that stopped the noise for a day or two, but it came right back.

It seems like the panels just need to be a bit tighter because if even a tiny bit of pressure is applied to the dash while driving, the squeaks disappear.

Last weekend I grabbed some auto and marine weatherstrip, cut a couple pieces to size, and wedged two widths of the stuff between the dash panels on either side of the instrument cluster.

One week and a couple hundred miles later and no squeaks yet. Best $3.88 I've spent in a long time!

Man I just chased down a similar thing.

Plastic on metal up top around the VIN tag. a little help from @Jamison C and she's tight.

I'm at the point of just chasing small weird stuff, which is way better than where I started 3 years ago....with the control arms falling off. It was a mess.

Oh boy, I don't envy you there. I've been lucky with only minor annoyances... so far🤞

What'd you find up near the VIN plate? Any pics from when you had it apart? My squeak suppression fix seems like it may have only been temporary... or I've got a new one. Either way, that area is one of the possible sources. ☹

Where the plastic part of the dash goes over the metal and it screwed down on either side of the VIN....the screws were tightigh
but the plastic flexes at a different rate than the metal... I really believe if you look there you'll see something.

remove the trim piece along the windshield carefully and grab the cluster module and just rock it front back a little bit and you'll hear it going crazy.

I took some soundproofing material and put it between the plastic and metal and screwed it back down and that fixed it... But today I'm getting some screws that are just a little bit bigger and I'm going to take it apart this evening and put those in and add some screws closer to the windshield on either side of the VIN tag.

Excellent - thanks! Going to be pulling it all to install LEDs and track down the squeak in the next couple of weeks; appreciate the pro tip!

Man I'm going to tell you when you pull the cluster you're pretty much have got it nailed... If you will simply put something between the plastic in the middle where it mounts... Like the soft side of some adhesive Velcro strips or thin weatherstrip , and fasten it back down, it will be fixed I bet.

I'm also replacing the factory upper cluster screws with a 1-in long larger sheet metal roofing screw with a rubber washer so that I can torque it down a little tighter and I'm adding three closer to the windshield

I've got the squeaking fixed but I'm just going to go into it and make it a little better in call it good.

I've kicked around a similar idea and will likely go that route.

Earlier this past week I removed my dash mounted CB and swapped in a Cobra 75 that I had laying around. But it definitely needed a better speaker is I was going to hear it on the trail. I ordered a flat double male AUX cable with 90* ends. Connected one to the Cobra interface box under the dash and ran the other to the AUX input on my head unit. So now when I am using the CB (never at same time as radio) I simply switch to AUX on the head unit and the CB is now through all the Sound system. Plenty of volume. The change also freed up the space on the dash to install a Ram mount for my phone which runs Gaia on the trail. Seems to be the ideal setup for me.
