What did you do to your TJ today?

Found a hardtop locally in excellent condition and at a good price. Ordered the Harken hoist to be able to switch it out by myself. Took the TrekTop off and put the hardtop on for now. I'll keep the hardtop and full doors on until spring, spring will run the TrekTop and half-doors/soft uppers (or no uppers), then summer will switch to bikini/Spiderweb Shade and Bestop tube doors, then TrekTop in the fall, hardtop in the winter. Repeat.

The hardtop is a lighter color than spice (which is my interior and the TrekTop), the original owner painted it to match his TJ. I like it, it's different.

Teaching my son to drive a manual this weekend, he managed to illicit a nasty "clunk" from under the Jeep. I guessed this to be a transmission mount based on precisely 32.732 seconds of research.

Went to install today - actually almost completed installation - when I realized there was a problem that I had missed. Check out the top-right stud:

It was getting dark as I was finishing. I couldn't figure out why the last nut wouldn't thread until I broke out the flashlight.

Replacement comes next week, and I get to do it all over again. Fortunately, that's an easy job. Unfortunately, the old mount looks reasonably good, no cracks or tears in the rubber, so I'm not convinced the transmission mount will solve the problem. We'll see.

does Penetrol wash off?
Yes and no. It soaks in to the original paint and restores the oils that the UV rays have dried up over the years. You can wash the excess off. I laid it on super thick and I'm going to buff the excess off.

I changed my fuel pump because my gas gauge wasn’t working and my brother in law had an OEM Jeep unit lying around from a totaled Rubicon he bought for parts. The pump fixed my gauge and I also did the fix for puking out gas on fill up by filing down the ridges on the check valve.

I never had the desire to have heated seats. My wife wanted them in her car we got her a few years ago. I ended up finding myself using them on high with the A/C on max cool in the middle of summer. LOL

I ended up put a set in the Jeep too. :)
They would give me a mean case of swamp ass!

Keep that old mount at least for a while. I replaced my trans mount and it happened to be trash day. The stock one looked ok but I threw it in the trash and minutes later the trash was collected. Then I drove my Jeep (TJ that I have since sold) and fount the new, aftermarket, mount produced vibes at idle. The dash vibrated and made some noise. Had the old mount not been quickly picked up I wold have put it back on.

Took my passenger seat out to fix broken seat release cables. I wasn’t able to get the driver out, torx bolt was in there. Not sure why there were zip ties on there??? I was hoping for the easy cable clamp and eye hook trick I read about but no such luck. The piece with two bends was snapped, of course I didn’t take a picture of the MacGyver job I did. It involved some spare cables and zip ties. Should hold for a while anyways, I also learned that it won’t tumble forward unless in the Jeep. Spent 2 hours thinking we didn’t have it fixed 😂😂. Either way I’m happy to have one seat that’ll let the kids in a bit easier.

Been behind bars. Dirt bike handle bars, nailing turns on my KTM 300.

Started my tailgate plate ...it's 3/16 aluminum with standoffs so the swingaway load is distributed. Bolts to the original 4 holes. Gonna bedliner or paint stone white.

An exogate really is a good idea. I'm just hooked on my current look.

Hopefully this doesn't turn out hokey. I want it to not be real noticeable.

Fixed my dash squeak....cluster. @DaveC had an idea , and I got deeper into it ...ended up you have the dash to the tub and the cluster to the dash ...I used sound deadener to insulate between the plastic and metal and stronger screws, then silicone where the cluster plastic laps the dash plastic. Dead quiet.

New grab handles for the rear to help kids climb in when windows are out. Swapped the soft top for the hard top. Such a PITA. No wonder I didn’t do it last year.
Also took my first drive with the new short shifter. Night and day difference.

Nice. I’m a KTM guy myself. 1190 Adventure.
