Does anyone know a fix for wobbly mirrors?

Does anybody know a quick fix for wobbly factory mirrors on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler? I try to adjust them and they just fall out of alignment.

The best mod you can do is remove them and use the later model TJ mirrors. They can still be found brand new from Mopar.

You will no longer have any issues.

Yep. The later model TJ mirror fixes the issue.

It's been awhile since I had mine apart when I sandblasted and painted them but I believe you can take them apart, clean the factory lube from the ball joint, put it back together and tighten it down. Mine are tight and takes a considerable amount of force to adjust them.

The mirrors on my 97 did the same thing. However there are two screws underneath that can be tightened more to hold it securely. They will feel very tight but they can be tightened more with a suitable screwdriver and putting some effort into it.

Did you Jeep come factory with the half doors? VIN check would be able to tell you for certain.

Is there VIN sticker on them somehere that matches the tub’s VIN?

Some folks will swap full doors for half doors and vise versa.

Agree. I bought new late model Mopar mirrors for less than $140 a pair on Ebay.

I was happy to buy new mopar for $140 to put on my half doors that I bought without mirrors. I could switch the mirrors with the doors but having another set is worth it to me.

good to know! I ordered a new set of mirrors with the body mount relocation brackets today. That way when I run without doors i'm still covered.

The screw was already tight but I put a wrench onto a square shaft screwdriver to apply a bit more force. That stopped it from moving around.

I am not a fan of the way the newer style looks. Certainly fewer problems though.
