Air Bags Question(s)

Hey all, new to to the forum! Seeing if anyone can answer this question. Back Story first. I bought a wrecked 2003 TJ. All I had to do was the frame swap. I have it up and running now but without any air bags. I still need to purchase both air bags but I am worried that if I were to plug them in that the air bag module would still detect a crash and they will go off. (wasted money) Do I need to replace the air bag module as well or would it still be good to use again? And I also have not found a decent thread on where the air bag module is located. Thank you for any help you can give.

Yes you definitely need a new replacement airbag sensor module, they're strictly a one-time use device. You'll find it under the very front of the center console, in front of the shifter.

The bags will not go off when you plug them in though, just an air bag light in dash. Most likely you need the clock spring as well since the connector usually melts.

X2 to all of the above, including the clock spring replacement (which you will need).

Be sure to disconnect the battery when installing new airbags, that's imperative!

You'll also need to replace the seat belt pre tensioners. Basically, the whole air bag system needs to be replaced.

Usually, when a air bag goes off, your seat belt locks up as well. the seat belt has a sensor in the tensioner assy. Jeep may be different. I base this from my knowledge of working in a body shop years ago. Its been a while, so I could be mistaken.

The TJ's seat belt mechanism has no pre-tensioner or sensor in it.
