What did you do to your TJ today?

How'd you do it?
It's pretty easy, took me maybe 3 hours moving with equal parts care and purpose. And constantly losing tools, I have no idea how I manage to lose a drill without leaving where I was seated.

Marker lights first. I removed the bulb from the light housing, then removed the housing from the fender. The light comes out with a simple twist. The housing has a single nut on the bottom, remove it and you can tip the housing inward and down out of the fender. Reverse for installation. In my case, there was just enough wiring to reach the new mount point, so no electrical was required.

There are two types of fasteners, both with 8mm heads. I used a ratcheting wrench, there wasn't enough space for a socket ratchet.

One is a machine-threaded screw with a fixed washer head that screws into a rivnut. These are located at the tail of the front fender (three, I believe), all three on the small middle section, and on the lead and tail of the rear fender (two at each end, I believe). For these, spray them down with the penetrating oil of your choice - you don't want to pull out any of those rivnuts. You don't have to completely remove the small section (located right behind the front fender) - you can loosen the screws and slide it off once the front fender is removed.

The other is a rough thread screw with a fixed washer head that screws into a plastic block on the inside of the fender. I was generally able to hold the plastic block in place to remove the screw, only needing a pair of pliers once to keep the block from spinning. I pre-thread the new blocks by running the screw through them before installation to make them easier to install.

The rear has the added difficulty of the fender liner. I removed the plastic plug on the inside rear of the fender liner, and just pushed the liner out of the way. It took some doing to get that liner back in proper position. If I did it again, I might look at how to remove the liner entirely to avoid deforming it.

I took the Jeep to a car wash station to clean out where the fender met the body before installing the new fenders. It was pretty dirty there.

Removed front drivers seat and dropped it off to have the bottom portion re-foamed.

Installed RAM mount for cell phone.

I don’t think it’s deep. I’m gonna try the clay bar first. It’s a $30 try with no downside. Not exactly sure what I want the long term solution to be.
Clay bar plus rubber mallet got it back straight...long term solution is still TBD. Gonna get this SSYE installed and let future me worry about that. They are removed so it can't cause any more damage.

Got a good local deal on a Savvy bumper with a Warn winch. Neither look like they were used much. Now I just have to decide when I'm going to install it.

Just a lucky guy.

My windshield washer stopped working, so I added more windshield washing fluid. Tried the windshield washer arm to activate the washer/spray.. still no fluid dispenced. Open the hood again and decided to pull the line off the reservoir.. and the fluid ran out onto the floor.. yep smart move, but grabbed a catch tray to svef the remaining amount..
Next plan to blow out the line.. seemed like a good idea at the time. But it appeared to blow out a junction in the line..
Upon further inspection, there was a small valve near the washer jet assembly.. and a small open hole was drippjng a little fluid.. looking closer yet.. a part seemed to now be missing. It was a backflow valve guts that had blown out..

And now the first lucky thing I saw a small plastic button on the driveway... and further down the driveway was a small plastic object that looked like a top of a ball point clicker.... and further down the drive way was a small spring again looing like a small spring found inside a clickable pen. They all fit together .. a amazingly I reinstalled it in the line backflow Housing, only to find it really leaked.

I disassembled it again and found it was missing a super small o ring.. No way I was guna find that on the drive way... but wait.. my lucky day.. the part store had just the item.. reinstalled it.. and walla. I was back in business..windshield washer now functioning again.

What I learned.. be careful what you hook an air compressor to with 90# pressure and never park in a gravel work area..luck will not save you..

The jeep in question a 2004 tj rubicon... lucky me

Replaced my sway bar bushings today, a few of them were a little loose so I decided to replace them all. While I was at it I threw a little rust preventative spray on the bracket for my ocd, and I also wirewheel'd all the bolts and used antisieze

Also adjusted my steering box a little again, my steering is very loose and I'm hoping I can solve most of it with tightening the box. Not sure what else I can try next, I'm hoping I don't have to replace the whole gear box. I see a lot of movement in the input shaft, but the pitman arm doe not move at all for a few degrees.

I also finally went to pick up my weathertech cargo liner from the previous owner. Just need to cut out the hole for my seatbelts.

Are those Moog bushings? I put some on mine a few years ago. Those things squeaked like crazy on slow speed bumps like speed bumps and pot holes in my work parking lot when it was below 50°. I even put some grease on them too. Maybe not enough or the wrong kind.

The rear ones didn’t squeak though.

They are, and damn I hope that's not the case for me I have enough squeaks to deal with as it is 🤣. Might not even get cold enough to find out again this year, so I guess I'll have to wait until next winter to see. I did not put any grease on them, since it didn't help for you it's probably not worth taking them back off to add some.

I have heard they squeak...I put Moog ones on mine with a lil bit of marine grease and no squeak..been over a year now.

I guess I'll drive it for a bit and see how it is. I bought some lucas red n tacky #2 for all my suspension components, would that work or should I buy a separate kind? Still pretty unfamiliar with grease

I don’t remember exactly what I used, but it was probably a little wheel bearing grease. I bought some SuperLube synthetic grease after reading it was good for bushings that squeaked. I never got around to doing it and eventually fixed it by removing the OEM sway bar and installing and AntiRock this past November. :)
