60,000 Mile Tune-Up

Hey all,

So i am a bit over 60k miles and i am going to do a tune up. So prices range from 300-1k. The 1k quote says they use top of the line fluids not including oil change and transmission filter service.

I go offroading maybe once a month when it is warmer if that makes a diff between types of fluids i should get.

Is it worth the price tag or no? Thanks in advance.

Save a large amount of coin and get the fluids yourself.

I honestly think that for $300 everything highlighted in orange or purple on the severe service table you posted should be done. Maybe the spark plugs if you don't have a distributor might add a little cost but not much.

Going at least 12,000 miles without even looking at the air filter is not how it should be and I also wonder why that severe service table makes no mention of ever changing the coolant. That should be done by now too along with changing the unmentioned brake fluid.

If you got that severe service table from a shop, you need to find a different shop.

Amsoil comes with a hefty price tag. The links in the fluid thread will take you to exactly what you need and not cause you to spend any more than you need to

The ONLY (!!!!!!) ATF you should be using in any Wrangler automatic transmission is ATF+4. If it doesn't say "ATF+4" in big letters on the front of the bottle it's the wrong stuff. Period. Even if it says "Compatible with ATF+4" in smaller print somewhere, it's not the right stuff if the big letters don't say ATF+4. Don't be swayed by the marketing of Amsoil or Mobil-1 to buy an ATF that doesn't say ATF+4 in big letters on the front of the bottle.

Any brand of ATF+4 is fine, all ATF+4 is synthetic and is what you must use.
