I bought my 89 Yj for 7.2K back in 91 because it was cheaper than a new quad and I could run it more places. I bought my 05 TH rubi for 22.5K instead of a RZR at 30K plus and can still run it more places. I guaranty my TJ will outlast a RZR.

If the engine has been taken care of (oil change as required per the owner manual, tune up etc...) I don't think so. If its never had the clutch replaced that might be required.

I just got out of a high mileage jeep (165k) and I have also tried few under 100k miles jeep wrangler and I would say there's difference.
I can say with confidence about a high mileage toyota v6 engine but Jeep is not same. Maybe experience would vary.
My TJ had 115K miles when I assumed ownership. It gets 18mpg on 33's and about 17mpg on 35's after the re-gear (4.56). The prior owner didn't (at least from my observation) keep it tuned up (plugs, cap, rotor were toasted when I assumed ownership and have since been replaced) and had the in-correct thermostat so the engine ran warmer than it should. But as far as torque after the re-gear and new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing helped engine performance.

Yes break even didn't bother to make any profit. I was getting too many offer way higher as well but with the issues in it I didn't have it in me to make profit or even think about it.
Now you can use your experience with that one to find a better one.
To fill you guys in. He bought a very tired TJ with a very leaky steering box (had to fill it daily) for around $8.6k. Worst thing about it was PO sprayed the whole thing with white rhino liner and it had dirt and grim imbedded in it with some spots scraped off. Also the rusted frame had been repaired by a inexperienced welder.
That kind of money won’t buy you much here in SoCal unless you get lucky.
A little off topic, but has anyone priced pick up trucks lately? WOW! Like previously stated, I think as gas prices rise, we may see a little bit better priced trucks.

I bought a Jeep and I described the frame repair job as looking like chewed bubble gum welds. It was the only Jeep I ever bought that I didn't look at the frame. The outside looked great and it had under 100,000 miles. I sold it for a $1,000 profit ($7,000) and the guy I sold it to, sold it 6 months later for $9,000. I showed him the crap weld job and he didn't care. He just wanted it to flip.

I didn't look at it with that much love. I am sure if there is rust all frame will have such kind of pattern which is a property of iron/steel when rusted over a period of time. Some more some less.
it's not like that it was going to fall of break into pieces. But putting money into repair of such thing and leaving foundation in bad shape was no for me.
That's the way it is with someone who just wants to flip looking at the craze around brand.
