Midnight LJR Build

Got my XM satellite radio antenna hooked up today, and Installed my new ham radio a Kendwood TM-710G. @Alex01 was nice enough to come help out. I lost my antenna mount so have to reorder that. Other than that everything went great.

How did you attach the ham radio to the dash, @Midnight LJR ?

Difficult to get an angle to get a photo.

But we took the mount it came with and mounted it under the coin tray then just cut to slots out of the coin tray for the mount to stick up through. That way it doesn’t have the appearance of just being stuck on there.

First successful test tow of the trailer. It towed great, I really like that I can see around it with the stock mirrors, and something I didn’t expect is I can even see over it in the rear view mirror unless a small car is directly behind me I can see that they are there.

Still some misc wiring to finish and and things to bolt down in the tongue box plus some camping and rock lights etc. but I should be able to take it to DMV next week and get it registered.

One of the cool things about the way Blaine did the receiver is I can use any receiver designed for the Jeep stock, so I swapped out the square for round for aesthetic reasons, it only took about 5 minutes to out on.

I also lifted the trailer 2” and install bump stops to keep the tires out of the flares.

I have been digging through your thread forever looking for more info on exactly what Mr. Blaine did reference the trailer hitch mounting. I want to do something similar under my Savvy bumper. Do you remember about when that was to help my search?

Very impressive build! I really appreciate how clean it is and your attention to detail.

Thanks!

We used a stock style hitch.

Then when he cut and tucked the frame up, he welded nuts inside the frame so that I can bolt it on and off with a single wrench. Even though the threads are different he made sure they had the same size bolt head. So I only need a 3/4” wrench and about about 1 minute do remove or add the receiver. He also hid the wiring up very high underneath to minimize the chances of ripping it off.

I was just out comparing your pics to my Jeep to see what I'd need to do. It's different from what I was thinking but involved the same basic principal. You are using the bolts on the sides of the frame and the ones under the corners of the bottom of the bumper I'm assuming, right? Four bolts holding the hitch on?

Correct, with a receiver like this.

Decided last minute to head out towards Uncle Toms Cabin snow wheeling. We made it about half way there before my daughter started to get tired and it began to get dark. Had a great time. First time I have had the Jeep in this kind of snow. Was a great a day and nice to be out of the house.

On a related note, I still don’t understand the attraction of driving your 2WD Toyota Sequoia down a snow covered road and blocking the whole trail for 30 minutes while complete strangers have to rescue you. At least the Subaru on street tires that ended up sideways and blocking the trail had AWD. 🤣

Looks like you guys had a blast. I'm glad I didn't need to assemble the rescue team tonight. Did the snow ever get deep or was it pretty compact from all the other people on the trail?

Started to get a little depth where we turned around, just enough to be a little fun, but pretty compact.

Knocked on @Alex01 door at 8:00pm last night and was able to get the radio install finished finally. He also did the mod so I can talk to everyone on GMRS channels.

Other than taking off the hardtop the Jeep is ready for Moab!
