TodaY? Just a few things here or there... ditched the stock Dana 30 for a JK Dana 44, added an ARB air locker up front to match the back, 38" Toyo Open Country tires, PSC hydro, new Warn Zeon 10S winch to replace the busted Smittybilt (still seen here), re-geared to 4.88s, had a drag link fabricated, a few other odds and ends. Time to go wheeling.

How do you like the JK axle?

Broke the outer axle dust shield thing while R&Ring my axle shaft u joints because you might as well replace them when you have to replace the wheel bearing. And as long as you're doin one side you may as well do both. I couldn't find the shield locally, new or used, amazon wanted $12 something a piece plus $6 shipping to get it here by Tuesday. So I kept shopping and found them at autozone.com for $8 each free pick up at my local store on Tuesday. That works.

Good news; the home made Kroil( acetone and ATF) worked WONDERS! Drivers side was the good side and I had my mechanic try to bust the bolts for the bearing loose, no go. Shit. He said use penetrating oil and heat an I should be able to get them off....... HomeKroil and a breaker bar and they came off EASY!

Hopefully I have it back together on Wednesday.

Having successfully completed her recent diet Lucabella has shed a good amount of weight between removal of the winch with its plate & bumper, tire carrier, rock sliders & some other skids, I noticed some new vibrations so a rear driveshaft adjustment was in order to correct the pinion angle. Turns out I needed to spin the upper rear control arms one full revolution to shave a degree & voila, smoothness. I will never regret spending the couple extra bucks on double adjustables, damn those things are nice.

While I was at it I realized I never adjusted my front track bar after pulling the spacers & dropping the front end 1.25 inches, did a quick measurement & sure as shit the driver’s side front tire stuck out from the flare 4 inches while the passenger side was at 3 🧐, pretty significant difference but I never noticed. I pulled the trackbar bolt, shaked rattled & rolled the front end until I closed the gap by a half inch, couldn’t manage to close it all the way but, meh

Finished up with a quick alignment.

Took her out for a spin & stumbled across this beast, a very clean YJ on 37x14.5s. For $24,000 I'll pass, but it sure is a beauty:

Finished my lunchbox locker install last night. Carrier bearing isn't looking too great and there's a little grooving on the carrier itself. Looking like I might regearing way earlier than planned if I'm going to be forced to replace the carrier and pay someone to setup the diff. Probably going to be be regeared and locked before I end up with a lift 😅

After a bunch of nonsense, I finally finished gearing to 4.56. While it was on stands, I also took the opportunity to:
  • Install new rear axle seals w/ bearings
  • Front pads, rotors & calipers
  • Rear shoes, drums, & spring kit
  • Clean & paint the drums, backing plate, and a few pieces inside the drum
  • Adjust my e-brake cable
  • Clean and paint the diff covers
  • LED bulbs in the cab
  • Barricade flat fenders
  • MevoTech TTX ball joints
Tomorrow I’ll get the gear oil in and go through the slow break-in process so I don’t fry 3wks, blood, sweat, time and $$$. Pictures will come later.

Installed a PSC dual fluid cooler, need to pick some well nuts tomorrow to lock down the A/C condenser. I didn't plumb the transmission in yet, as I have a rebuilt 42RLE coming and don't want to contaminate the cooler. Also still need to drill some holes to raise the fan shroud.
Installed Brown Dog Ultra-flex rubber 1" raised motor mounts, and got rid of spacers on the TC skid. Wasn't too difficult, loosened the frame side motor mount and got enough slack to get the long bolt out past the A/C pump.
All in all, a productive day.

You did the regear yourself?
