Why is it important to keep weight down on a TJ?

Your correct but why don't pick ups have any problem? They are certainly a lot, lot heaver. Jeeps just were not designed to be the toughest.

Every truck I've seen at our ORV is far inferior to the Jeep's. I watch them try to go up stuff and they always back out of the places that have rocks and are narrower. The wheelbase is just too long to make the turns and deal with all the rocks. They are usually guys who just got their lift and 35's and think they are going to go crawling. Not.

I haven't either, and even if I had, they are far too big to get through a lot of obstacles we get through. I mean, yeah, they can go up Hell's Gate and stuff like that, but there are a lot of things they are not going to go up simply due to wheelbase and vehicle size.

They, of course, can carry a shit ton of stuff in the bed, and we can't do that.

When are we building that LJ! I have one I'm about to sell and then get to work on moving my stuff to the twins rig and putting new springs and shocks on mine and making pinion and trackbar adjustments. Then I won't have a project.

Are you able to use the shop at the dealership?

Body lift won't change your shock measurements because both top and bottom mount to things connected to the frame.

Weight question.... for cargo space purposes Im laying my spare (35") "FLAT" in bed area (no rear seat) under a rear tub cover. Deck above it for cargo. I have option / or not of pulling the rear door off and putting tire sticking out part way. Thinking total amount of it sticking out of open back end to result in a max length that would be equivalent to how long the TJ would be if same 35 was on a typical swing out tire carrier rear bumper. (or less)

OR... of course could keep door on and put tire flat in back w/out sticking out at all..

Assuming Im not worrying about water leaking into driver area.....

Any thoughts on which of the two would be a weight advantage keeping in mind ?

. Engine is a Mercedes 5yl turbo diesel... but its weight if I recall right is similar to the straight six it replaced..
. Cheap China synthetic rope winch on front.
. front to back weight ratio.
. will NOT be heavy off roading......yet, want to be capable to do so on occasion.
. Will be towing it with things loaded on the deck mentioned above.
